Facilitators (4) Harden Wall Gordon Grant Wings (8) House Tucker Nwaba Tate McLemore Green Brown Martin Jr. Bigs (3) Wood Cousins Caboclo 2 Way: Kenny Wooten and Brodric Thomas ROTATION Wall / McLemore Harden / Gordon House / Nwaba Tucker / Tate Wood / Cousins Bench: Grant, Brown, Green, Caboclo G-League: Martin Jr., Wooten, Thomas A few thoughts from Game 1: I like what I saw from Jerian Grant, he looked under control, and knew how to run the offense. Having said that, I would not be surprised if he’s waived in order to maintain as much cap flexibility as possible. IMO, he was clearly our best facilitator outside of our core 3 guards. I also liked Brodric Thomas. Nothing stood out from the stats, but on the game tape he looked fast and knew what he was doing. Might be something there. The bench rotation is WIDE open. The only players guaranteed minutes are Gordon, Cousins and McLemore. I’m hesitant to commit to Nwaba or Tate because I don’t know if either of them can shoot. Haven’t seen Brown in this offense yet. Also don’t know if the coaches see Caboclo purely as a big or if he could be a wing...if so he may get some minutes at the 4.
I would break it up into Guards, Forwards and Centers. Of course the ultimate goal is to find Centers who play like Forwards so eventually it will just be backcourt and front court players. Guards: Wall, Harden, Gordon, McLemore, Brown Forwards: House, PJ, Green, Nwaba, Tate, Martin Centers: Wood, Cousins, Coboclo Wall/Gordon Harden/McLemore/Brown House/Green PJ/Nwaba/Tate/Martin Wood/Cousins/Coboclo NG - Jones NG - Wooten NG - Clemons NG - Queen NG - Thomas NG - Grant I think Grant gets the final roster spot for all of the reasons you listed above. He seemed comfortable running the offense and getting the ball moving so it could find the open man. From what I understand the Rockets still have their two 2 way contracts up for grabs between the other 5 players. I think we can count Clemons out of one of those spots bc he did exactly the opposite of Grant while he was on the court. He never got the offense moving and was jacking up bad shot after bad shot. Clemons was a big reason why the Bulls cut the lead to 9 in the 2nd quarter. I would also be surprised if Wooten gets one but I could be wrong. He has good size and has NBA experience so he might be ahead of the other NG players. I liked the energy out of Queen, Thomas and Jones but didn’t really see much else. It will be interesting to see what happens.
I think you have to maximize the offense. Wall / Gordon Harden / Nwaba House / Green Wood / McLemore Cousins / Tucker
Caboclo offers young legs with lateral quickness that we shouldn't risk with Cousins. I'd like to see Caboclo get minutes to save the offensive players the wear & tear. Gotta look at his PER and make some decisions about the guy, but based on what I've seen Stone do, we keep him on the bench for insurance at minimum. This guy looked good, hit some nice 3s and had a decent step-back. Depending on the rest of the few games coming up, we'll see if he sticks. It'd be great to have another House, give us yet another shooter that can start to develop into a great asset. Gerald Green looked like an Austin Rivers. I see him averaging 7-13 mins per game. Silas is not going to waste time if EG comes in completely cold. He wants to win, not tank.
