yeah, but everyone does it right? look..i'm not taking sides in political debates ever again. both sides suck. the democrats have no framework from which to stand upon to call this out. half of the folks here who identify themselves as staunch dems have been telling us on this very board that prostitution should be legal, anyway. they spent years telling us that everyone cheats and everyone lies, so it should be forgiven. this is the crap our two-party system has become. neither has the foundation to be able to legtimately call out the other without looking like complete hypocrites. it's far easier to see the speck in someone else's eye than the plank that's in your own. i'm not suggesting republicans shouldn't be held accountable for this...they should. fully accountable.
Exactly, and the people who are telling us taht prostitution, fornication corruption, blah blah blah are immoral and that they're on the side of moral values etc are the ones engaging in it. I only see one side of hypocrisy in this particular instance.
in the story i agree with you. in the "calling them out" reaction..i don't. please understand, i'm not defending anyone here.
First, Clinton didn't trade money for sex, but boy did he end up paying for it. Second, there's a difference between the theoretical idea of making prostitution legal and the present issue. Whatever your views on the legality of prostitution, this is a case of using prositution to bribe public oficials and increasingly it looks like intelligence officials as well... Something that I don't think anyone on this board would argue to make legal. This goes to the heart of our representative government... and just to be clear, I don't care if Dems were involved in this... anyone that participated should feel the full brunt of the law and the dsiapproval of the public... people bribing elected and CIA officials with women to get contracts is just flat wrong, regardless of what church you go to or what tree you hug. Now, I fully expect Repub apologists to scream "Clinton!" and "Monica!" on this, but there is in no way these two things are similar. Say what you want about Clinton, but he at least communicated with Monica and bought her a gift or two and that relationship did not affect any policy or budget issue he was working on. (I saw at least one report on TPM that said this operation goes back 15 years and mentioned that "Good Time" Charlie Wilson, a Dem, used to go to the parties though he claims to have left "before the women came out." Right. Again, any Dem involved in this should suffer the consequences and won't get any defense from me.)
i'm not being an apologist for anyone. i'm saying from my perspective the dems have zero credibility to play the "i'll hold you accountable for this" card on this issue.
The apologist part wasn't aimed at you Max... I was responding to your post in drawing a distinction between the idea of legal prostitution and this case, which goes to the heart of your "accountable" argument. This is not some drunk congressman going at it with a secretary on the Capital steps or having an affair with a younger woman. This is bribery, pure and simple. In this case the bribes happen to be women (or men.... I guess we really don't know at this point), instead of money or some other form that plays to the greed of man, but it is bribery nonetheless and Dems most certainly can call elected officials and CIA officials on bribery. On the apologist front (again, not aimed at you), it's easy to predict what the GOP/Right Wing Radio Talking Points will be after they have a day or so to think about it and I was trying to preempt that verbal onslaught. Sorry for my bad writing and the confusion.
all reps in congress have received bribes in the form of prositutes? the fact is bribery and prostitution are illegal.. and rep who have the ability to shape policy for our nation does it is a big deal.. als it doesn't mean if someone think something illegal should be legal then they can do it or they think its alright to do it.. that's why their changing the law..
This about it this way. What looks worse someone who doesn't think that prostitution should be outlawed being caught with a prostitute or someone who thinks prostitution should be outlawed being caught with a prostitute? You're right Dems who advocated legalized prostitution don't have a leg to stand on criticizing Repubs for using prostitutes but its not really about the prostitutes its about not living up to the standards that you (general you not you Mad Max) declare to hold and that you want to force on others. For instance if I'm a nutritionist that advocates that everyone should cut fried foods out of their diet and then I'm caught getting a ten piece extra crispy bucket of KFC doesn't that look bad even though there is nothing immoral about eating KFC?
I don't know why you guys are going out of your way not to directly finger MadMax. I saw him down at the "modeling studio" the other day with a barrell of whip cream and a pair of tongs.
If I vote Republican will I get invited to a sex party at the Watergate? I always wanted to see Cinemax live.
