He should retire medially, insurance pay for his contract, and the team can move on. Being able to walk when you are 35 is more important than playing bball now.
They can regrow cartlidge in the lab and then insert it into the knee.....by sewing it in... A good friend of mine had this done and he is much better, but I am not sure whether he would be able to play basketball again.... I mean it is just hard to watch him now. DD
Sucks, I really liked his playing style and attitude. I have him on my fantasy squad. Still, he should just sit out the entire season if it's that bad. Work full-time on the knees and come back strong next year.
WOAH - check out this article about regrowing cartlidge Nanofiber gel regrows knee cartilage in U.S. study By Gordon K. Chan. Northwestern University has revealed a nanofiber gel that regrows natural cartilage in injured joints. This therapy may become the solution for cartilage damage or degeneration, which is the leading cause of joint and arthritic pain. Help for aching knees may be on the way for amateur and professional athletes, the injured and the elderly. American researchers, in an animal study, have produced groundbreaking research in cartilage regrowth. Nanofiber gel, a material that is injected into a damaged joint, can regrow natural cartilage. Specifically, it can regenerate type II collagen, a smooth white connective tissue that covers joints. This research, reported in Businessweek is considered leading edge, since no other therapy can do this. Older methods, known as micro-fracture procedures, could produce type I collagen, but was essentially a cushioning scar tissue that would act as a substitute to cartilage. This discovery was published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Research on cartilage regrowth is in high demand as millions of sufferers complain of knee pain. It is known that once a person reaches adulthood, cartilage does not regenerate. "Once you are fully grown, you have all the cartilage you'll ever have", says one researcher. However, regenerative medicine is on its way. "“We view these results as a significant step forward toward a potentially new and innovative way to treat cartilage injuries in the future”, says Dr. Anzalone, CEO of Arrowhead Research. Dr. Anzalone believes this proven technology will be the platform to repair a wide range of tissues from cartilage to spinal cords. -------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe there is hope...and if this works, Microfracture surgery will be a thing of the past. Man, to get a job of your dream since you were a child and be taken away after only a short career of enjoying it must be heart-breaking.. At least he was able to sign a max contract before he was injured. Its great he is earning big bucks, but physiologically he must feel bad. Can't do what he loves and capable of doing, while disrupting the organization. I'm not even a pro soccer and basketball player, but when I got my hamstring pulled and have to rest for months to get the niggling feeling away, I feel sad that I couldn't do any sports. Heart breaking, and I feel for him.
On the BS Report, Steve Kerr said the Blazers knew about Roy's knee before they gave him that contract. Kerr said that was a nice thing to do but incredibly dumb from a winning standpoint.
We probably could have done a little better, but with all the injuries a championship wouldn't be guaranteed in any of those years. '06-'07 was the only year both McGrady and Yao played in the playoffs. And Roy was a rookie then and Battier was pretty productive. I don't know if he'd have given us a better shot at winning. '07-'08, Yao was injured. '08-'09 McGrady was injured and Yao went down too. Between him and Artest (if we would have even gotten him with Roy on the roster), maybe we could have gone another round. Even though he's slowing down a bit now, at least Battier's been an ironman. Superstars that are habitually injured aren't a real lock for championships. Yao/McGrady was a championship tandem that was undercut by injuries. The Rockets' story is as tragic as Portland's. The main difference being we dodged some albatross years that Portland is now facing with Roy.
^This. Although we know, first-hand, with our franchise- about looming injuries.. Think of the brighter picture.. at least we wouldn't have to worry about Brandon Roy, so much now, single-handingly whooping our behind anymore. It'll be easier to keep him in check.
Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome is a treatable condition and can be eliminated with an endoscopic procedure. Unless a piano falls from a window on Aldridge, he should last for a while.
Supposedly Pritchard caved under public and media pressure with Roy's contract. The Blazers brass wanted to take a harder stand. This is why Pritchard fell out of favor.
wow! that is awesome. my knee is like roy's. i'm gonna ask my doc about this stuff. very very exciting!
They DID get Wes Matthews...who is damn, damn good might I add. Andre, Wes, Lamarcus, Batum...they have a good core still.
Miller isn't much of a core piece at his age....Bayless on the other hand...they'll be regretting that one for a while also.
I hate to quote myself (who am I kidding, I love it), but from a time when the bbs was still full of people praising Roy (and Pritchard) and dissing the Rockets for investing in T-Mac/Yao: Since that post, Roy's health has kept detoriating further and Pritchard soon got canned. We certainly did dodge a bullet there and maybe the pro-tanking crowd can now stop hating on JVG for winning that meaningless game. Yeah, I know, cool story bro.
Brandon Roy has 3 guaranteed years left on his contract at $15, $16 and $18 million. The Blazers are screwed. As Rockets fans know, it's just too hard to assemble a championship squad with sizeable chunks of your salary cap payroll not playing (or playing way way below expectations due to health).
