As IROC said, the caffiene in the sodas is addictive. I remember that I would go a day or two without sodas and I would get these massive headaches (migraines) and they were a b**** and wouldn't go away until I had a glass of soda or tea. That is why I gradually took myself away from them. Now I drink soft drinks that are caffeine-free. I try to avoid soft drinks period and just drink water but I'll have an occasional one.

School meals in general are a big issue. It's really a money thing from what I gather. Schools allow the soft drinks in to generate revenue and they serve crap lunches with poor nutritional value because it's cheaper than serving healthy meals. Anyone who's ever made a real effort to eat heathy knows how much more expensive it is than eating poorly. Personally I'd rather see the parents pressuring schools than lawyers suing soft drink makers but if that's what it takes then that's fine with me.

If it's an child obesity issue though maybe parents should pressure schools to have PE five days a week because I've heard some schools have cut PE down to 2/3 days per week. Parents need to get involved in the schools.
