Do you think the years that Yao Ming worthlessly laid the ball into the basket didn't contribute to his injuries? Night in and night out the guy would do lay ups instead of dunks, and what happened is he was hacked and fouled every play. Some midget would come in and hack him, throwing him to the ground, and we would have to watch our 7' 6'' 300lbs go sprawling onto the ground.

It wasn't untill Jack Sikma's second year that Yao started dunking the ball. Thanks Yao and thank you Rockets coaching staff. JVG-worthless, RT-loved what you did with the other guys but with Yao it was all for not, Ewing- worthless and you ruined Chuck Hayes by teaching him that god awfull FT shot, etc, etc were worthless in Yao's development. How on earth could they sit there and tell the guy "Go ahead, lay the ball in to the basket, you're only 7' 6'', don't bother to dunk"?

And you knew what was going to happen? He was going to get injured. It didn't make any sense for a guy his size to lay it up, get fould and fall to the ground half a dozen times a game. All that and more lead to his injures...Chinese national team.

After reviewing the video - you are spot on. Nice catch. His heel does not come down. In fact, it appears that his legs gets to far under him and that due to inflexibility, his heel CAN'T come down and you can actually see the energy reverberate through his entire lower leg.

That's where the injury occurred. Had he been able to get his heel down / more flexible his muscled might have been able to absorb more of the energy and prevent the injury.

Perhaps because of the prior surgery he is not able to flex his ankle enough and that is why he got injured there.

    Great job on seeing that.

It is a freak accident, but what makes you think there is a low chance of it happening again? The stress fracture happened because somebody stepped on his leg while he was on the ground, correct?

Its unlikely Mcgee will step on Yao's foot again, but the league is littered with guys just as big and heavy as he is. Most players don't have this problem because they're agile enough to avoid players landing anywhere near them when they're on the floor, and since they aren't 7'6 and 300 pounds they would probably just get a sprain if some dude did indeed fall on their leg.

However Yao Ming moves like he's underwater compared to these guys. All it takes is for him to fall to the floor and voila! He's roadkill once again. I think Yao should really consider retirement at this point. His body is just too big and slow for the NBA.

Well sometimes once a injury occurs it becomes more likely to reoccur. This looks like one of those occasions where Yao is now more likely to at anytime have a fracture no matter how few minutes he plays for the rest of his career. You learn this from other activities like running or lifting where after injury occurs sometimes it becomes reoccurring unless properly strengthened in that area and it has been a while since your last injury in that region. Good luck Yao.

do you guys watch the Wizards game, this Mcgee guy is just a stupid *******, what he does is just running into guys, missing wide open dunks......

this guy has no idea of how to play Bball, I also believe he is the reason, yao is injured again......................

Leaning toward not a fluke. This reminds me of 2006, when he got undercut by Tim Thomas and got his right leg broken.

That's like 2 flukes in 4 years. So durability is obviously an issue even if it wasn't a fluke. Not saying it's his "fault" basketball wise or anything.

    Stuff happens...
