Wasn't he given the name by Calvin Murphy? Anyway, I remember the last time we got him we want to use him to defend Shaq in the playoffs since he was Shaq's team mate from way back in LSU. He is indeed a descent NBA center but his weight issues did him in. He was one of the few Sha could never move off the block or bully/abuse in the post.
Aren't you thinking of Stanley Roberts? Don't tell me that Shaq, Roberts, and Two Sandwiches were all on the LSU team...
Yea Roberts was on the LSU team with Shaq. According to this -- http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hamilth01.html --Thomas Hamilton went to Pittsburg.
You are right - I am talking about Stanley. Now I am confused. I think I can tell Stanley and Thomas apart now. Hmmm....
I remember thinking that Thomas Hamilton would make an awesome back up center. The guy couldn't play a lot of minutes and was slow, but he was HUGE. Not just fat, but big and tall as well. Anyways...I actually went to a game where he played some pretty good minutes. He dunked a couple of times and the crowd went wild. He was pretty much in there for six fouls and to clog the lane (and when he clogged the lane, that lane was clogged). He eventually had a couple of games where he was lazy. Didn't go for a ball or something that was going out of bounds. Rudy was always a player-friendly coach, but dogging it on the court crossed the line. Rudy took away his minutes severely, which Hamilton complained about loudly. He was promptly cut.
I think Calvin and Bill were talking about Hamilton being listed as 330 lbs. Calvin laughed, and said he was two sandwiches shy of 400 lbs. The name stuck.
man, when i saw this thread, the first thing that came to my head was an image of scottie the body in the commercial, goin "two beers"
Thomas Hamilton was a pretty good outlet passer. He usually got the rebound and fired the ball upcourt with a two-handed overhead pass. But when he tried to post up, it was usually a REALLY SLOW turn-around jumper, and he always got blocked even at 7'2" or so. You could almost see him thinking "Dribble, now plant the right foot, pivot, bring the ball up, shoot - oh #$%@#! blocked again!!!" It was that deliberate.
Thomas Hamilton vs Oliver Miller - classic matchup vs the Kings .. all hell broke loose in that game.
damn, you're right. No wonder I was thinking....Thomas? I thought it was anthony hamilton.... He still looks like a fat ass Jay Z though...lol
