No kidding. They also thought it was okay to "own" and make babies with slaves. If we're going to follow their intent in one thing, why not in all things? And while we're on the topic of Christianity, there is some ****ed up stuff in there too. The Old Testament more than the New one, but there is ****ed up stuff in both Testaments. And nobody expects us to follow even God's laws as they are expressed in the Bible. The documents that are the basis of our representative democracy are living documents and they are subject to the change that progress brings or blacks wouldn't be free and neither they nor women would be able to vote. We are told "All men are created equal" and then we go on to do something as fundamentally radical as to change the definition of "men" so that it might also include women and blacks. Because you can be sure neither was considered a full person in the time of our country's founding.

Too bad that Franklin and Jefferson didn't have Twitter back then... then we'd really know what they meant!

Yes/No Founded on Judeo/Christian values, Islam was hardly a thought in the New World. People saw the Orient (Mid East prior to 1902) as either a land of backward barbarians (based on their experiences with Barbary pirates), or a mystical land of flying carpets and genies (based off the popular book One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, and other books about Ali Baba, Aladdin, Sindbad, etc.) However Christian they might have been, they were certainly walking hypocrites who strived for Peace, War, Love, and Hate, Freedom and Slavery, and Universal Suffrage for all white males.
what is a Christian country? Whatever bible says is the law? Lot of stuff said in the gop primary dont hold much logic if you ask me. What Santorium really want you to know is that he is the choosen Christian by the ff and others are not. He might as well say it flat out loud.
This speech was broadcast by legendary ABC Radio commentator Paul Harvey on April 3, 1965: If I were the Devil . . . I mean, if I were the Prince of Darkness, I would of course, want to engulf the whole earth in darkness. I would have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree, so I should set about however necessary to take over the United States. I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what is good is “square”. In the ears of the young marrieds, I would whisper that work is debasing, that cocktail parties are good for you. I would caution them not to be extreme in religion, in patriotism, in moral conduct. And the old, I would teach to pray. I would teach them to say after me: “Our Father, which art in Washington” . . . If I were the devil, I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull an uninteresting. I’d threaten T.V. with dirtier movies and vice versa. And then, if I were the devil, I’d get organized. I’d infiltrate unions and urge more loafing and less work, because idle hands usually work for me. I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. And I’d tranquilize the rest with pills. If I were the devil, I would encourage schools to refine yound intellects but neglect to discipline emotions . . . let those run wild. I would designate an athiest to front for me before the highest courts in the land and I would get preachers to say “she’s right.” With flattery and promises of power, I could get the courts to rule what I construe as against God and in favor of p*rnography, and thus, I would evict God from the courthouse, and then from the school house, and then from the houses of Congress and then, in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion, and I would deify science because that way men would become smart enough to create super weapons but not wise enough to control them. If I were Satan, I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg, and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle. If I were the devil, I would take from those who have and I would give to those who wanted, until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And then, my police state would force everybody back to work. Then, I could separate families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines, and objectors in slave camps. In other words, if I were Satan, I’d just keep on doing what he’s doing. Paul Harvey, Good Day.
I am sure the world was a much better place in the middle ages where people are more religious and now we are on the path to the devil worshiping.
I never called for a return to religious ignorance (catholic middle ages), and yes paul harvey did pass on, darwin died too btw, and so will you one day. Jesus on the other hand was resurrected from the dead and ascended into heaven.
I always thought the United States was founded on a large landmass in the northern hemisphere -- who knew?
This. There was so much religious intolerance in the colonies... everyone hated each other and everyone was segregated by religious sects. Quakers, protestants, puritans, etc. all lived in different locations and despised each other. Religious freedom... for themselves and nobody else is pretty accurate.
I'm all for you believing that. Are you all for me believing that is outside of reality as I understand it?
