Rockets kept Lin a year too long. He should have been traded early during the last season or permanently benched.

Lin was never the answer. We should have gone to Plan B whatever that might have been.

Too early to say, but it could turn into a bless in disguise if Canaan breaks out thanks to this opportunity. Right now he's playing at about 70% of how good I think he can be this season.

Problem with Lin is that he just isn't someone who instills confidence from his team mates. He's not great for team chemistry because hes a bit shaky

Would you redo the trade, as in would you trade Lin to the Lakers again. The question is confusing because it can also be seen as doing the trade differently. I think the trade was just a blessing without a disguise.

It's all good now not because of Canaan, but Terry. I am still not sold on Canaan.

There was no serendipity, no mystery
    trading Lin was inevitable
    he sucked
    The OP misused the metaphor
Trevor Arizona was the "blessing in disguise."

Lin was always over-rated to begin with. The guy was paid $25 M over 3 years to do what min wager PG's in the NBA can do.

The guy Lin is a mental midget to go with being mentally weak, turnover prone, weak handles, very low BBall IQ etc. It was again addition by subtraction.

They guy had a pretty high usage for a very mediocre to poor return. Weak defense, weak outside shot and overall inconsistent.

What Canaan does is shoot the ball well (40% + from 3 point land) and play within the offense. He doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time like Lin did to be effective. The ball is best at your primary offensive creator's hand most of the time and that is Harden.

Agreed. No disguise there. Man, in hindsight the Lin trade was worth multiple picks. We got lucky.

Didn't make any sense to have the ball in his hands so often when we have James Harden.

While I admit that Canaan has been doing well, the Rockets still need somebody who can make plays off the bench. You can't compare Canann/Lin's numbers directly either, 'cause they are in different systems. I don't appreciate Byron Scott's system.

If the Rockets make no further upgrades this season, I would prefer to have Lin playing and his contract running out than to pay a pick for taking the contract off the book. Not sure how cap room situation with Lin's contract affects the signing of Ariza and/or Kpap though.

Morey seems to be able to pull serviceable point guards out of his ass. Hard to get too worked up when he ships one out.

Canaan is doing just fine. Bev's injury is a blessing in disguise in that it has given ample pt for Canaan to develop. Yesterday, he played physical d on one of the best pgs in Parker and stayed in front of him, not an easy feat for anybody.

    Canaan is doing good work.

    Short answer.... No.

-The Rockets could have just benched Jeremy Lin
    - They didn't need the cap space (Asik trade freed up enough for Ariza signing)
-They lost a really valuable 1st round pick
-Lins salary could have really helped the Rockets more with future trades (can have combined his salary, and taken back more in return).

You never give up a player AND an asset if you don't have to. The Rockets technically didn't have to give up Lin. Yes, he wasn't in the Rockets future plans, but they could have very well just benched him or waiving him/bought him out after the trade deadline (if no deals presented themselves) if replacing him with Canaan made the team better.

Dealing any player that takes Harden's hands off of the ball is addition by subtraction. Lin and Parsons fit that description. Lin and Parsons pounded the rock last season. Predictably they are gone.

Do you think that would have caused any locker room / team chemistry issues? Lin never disguised the fact that he felt like he should be starting. He also apparently questions if he was given a fair shake in Houston. Plus, teams tend to feel obligated to play expensive young guys.

Maybe the issues weren't worth giving up the first round pick, but I do think there would have been issues.
