I thought my mother voted for Reagan because of taxes. I'm 45, my brother is 59, I thought he told me my mother voted for him because of taxes. I asked her recently and she was like certainly not. That being said, I criticized his handling of debt but the top tax rate was 70% when he took office. That's insane, today it's 37%. Of all the criticisms his handling of mental health my be the worst
It wasn't going to reinstated. The religious right and the "Moral Majority" tried really really hard to pack courts with judges that would support segregation but used abortion and feminism as the boogyman to pack those judges in. Reagan eventually didn't cater towards all the demands of the religious right and they felt betrayed by Reagan. But he gave them a platform for a long time.
