    Are you serious?

I love how before the elections when he still had his majorities Obama was talking about Republicans having to sit "at the back of the bus" and how he had a "mandate" due to winning a whole 52% of the popular vote. But now that he's lost one of his majorities and the one he has is shaky (Senate Democrats aren't going to go crazy knowing they have to face the voters in 2 years), NOW it's all about "compromise".

Also, what exactly is Obama willing to compromise on? He's given no indication about what he's willing to work with Republicans on, and I'd be willing to bet it won't be on either of his babies (healthcare or "stimulus"). That doesn't leave much.

He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. Now that progress has been made, he said, “we can’t have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”

No "back of the bus"- nice try to bring race into it.

i dont know if it would help or not to get him a second term in office, but you would think it would help the country if they worked together.

    maybe....... maybe not.

it is fun listening to them piss and moan about how the other side sucks year after year though

I don't get some of you guys. Republicans didn't vote themselves into office, the electorate voted them in. who's obama supposed to be all hostile against? what is supposed to say, i'm pissed off at the results of this election? yeah, that'll fly

You know what happened the last time Democrats and Republicans worked together? The PATRIOT Act. I prefer gridlock.

    ^^^^

I should say that I'm exaggerating. Democrats and Republicans work together on Farm Bills and Defense Funding Bills, and a few other pork barrels every year.

Yeah I'm not sure what people in this thread want. Coming out swinging against the new Republican majority is coming out swinging against the voters who put them in place.

Please ease up on the Fox News. Obama never said the Republicans would have to ride at the back of the bus.

Obama has been compromising the whole time. That's why the health care bill is full of Republican ideas and amendments. That's why things that he and other Dems wanted aren't in the bill.

Because the GOP doesn't support things one day they were in favor of the day before isn't really a sign that only now is Obama willing to compromise.

Funny, that didn't seem to stop the Republicans from swinging at Obama when he was elected.

I agree. Historically when an opposition Congress has set out to obstruct a president things tend not to go well for Congress' party. Look at what happened in 1948 and 1996.

Seriously how many times does this have to be said. Obama compromised with the Republicans on most of health care and some of the stimulus.

Actually, when he was elected the elected Republicans made the same kind of empty rhetorical statements Obama is making. "He says he's a uniter, let's see him do it." "He has said no more red states, no more blue states, let's see him do it." Etc, etc.

And either way, Obama is the President of the United States, not a senator of a congressman. What he says matters a lot more than Republican leadership.

    Delusional?

What do you expect will happen when a political party owns congress and the executive branch? REFORMS!!!!

The republicans must be fooling themselves if they keep thinking they won all this new power. In order for them to push any of their agenda through, they have to compromise. The American people aren't going to put up with 2 more years of nothing from the party of NO. You will also have to deal with a much larger pool of voters in 2012, which strongly favors democrats.

You can stick your Boehner right up your McConnell.

To be fair, the GOP and Democrats also collaborated on the Iraq war resolution and that one was as bad as the PATRIOT Act, maybe worse.

Probably needs to be said more often than Republicans say that Obama won't work with them. Because they say it over and over again and even though it's completely untrue, they've managed to push that narrative and get a lot of voters to believe it.

I remember Pelosi saying "Hey we won" in response to people saying they didn't like their policy.

    Did Obama ever say it?

We won isn't exactly compromise, and it is easy to ask for compromise when you are on the down turn.

Bold prediction for 2012, Obama wins 51% of pop vote, GOP wins Senate.

Rachael Maddow had a great segment last night on the right wing echo chamber that perpetuates the truthiness of republican talking points. Sort of like how the bush white house would point to an article in the New York Times to validate reasons for war, when of course they were the ones that planted the story in the times in the first place. “See? The Times Says It’s True!” One right wing blog will post a lie and then another will point back to that lie as the truth and then it just becomes this circular narrative of truth.
