Perhaps what irritates the conservatives most is Dean was trying to woo the support of white southerners with the Confederate flags on the back of their pickup trucks.

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

In fact! That's a GREAT song!

I loves me some Buffalo Springfield!

    There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
    Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Stop, now, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Out of my mind
    And I just can't
    take it anymore
    Left behind
    By myself and
    what I'm living for
    All I hear are screams
    from outside the limousines
    That are taking me

    Out of my mind
    Through the keyhole
    in an open door
    Happy to find
    That I don't know
    what I'm smiling for
    Tired of hanging on,
    If you've missed me,
    I've just gone
    Cause they're taking me
    Out of my mind

    Out of my mind
    And I just can't
    take it anymore
    Left behind
    By myself and
    what I'm living for
    All I hear are screams
    from outside the limousines
    That are taking me
    Out of my mind

For what's it's worth, I saw them open a three group concert in Houston around... '67?? Jefferson Airplane was touring for Surrealistic Pillow, and second billing was taken by Strawberry Alarm Clock, when Incense and Peppermints was out. Both Springfield and Airplane were great, really superb, and Alarm Clock was surprisingly good as well. This was probably around a 3 hour concert, including breaks between bands to set up.

    Good times.

    edit: music transcends everything...

sounds like an awesome concert, and certainly the opening line of "Somebody to Love" is appropriate to this thread!

When the truth is found to be lies
and all the joy within you dies
don't you want somebody to love
don't you need somebody to love
wouldn't you love somebody to love
you better find somebody to love

    basso, irony abounds!

    yes indeedy...

One morning I woke up and I knew
    You were really gone
A new day, a new way, and new
    eyes to see the dawn
Go your way, I'll go mine and
    Carry on

The sky is clearing and the night
    Has gone out
The sun, he come, the world
    is all full of light
Rejoice, rejoice, we have no choice but
    To carry on

The fortunes of fables are able
    To sing the song
Now witness the quickness with which
    We get along
To sing the blues you've got to live the tunes and
    Carry on

If you walk away, I'll walk away
First tell me which road you will take
I don't want to risk our paths crossing some day
So you walk that way, I'll walk this way

And the future hangs over our heads
And it moves with each current event
Until it falls all around like a cold steady rain
Just stay in when it's looking this way

And the moon's laying low in the sky
    Forcing everything metal to shine
And the sidewalk holds diamonds like the jewelry store case
They argue walk this way, now walk this way

And Laura's asleep in my bed
As I'm leaving she wakes up and says
I dreamed you were carried away on the crest of a wave
Baby don't go away, come here

And there's kids playing guns in the street
And ones pointing his tree branch at me
So I put my hands up I say enough is enough,
If you walk away, I'll walk away
    And he shot me dead

    I found a liquid cure
    From my landlocked blues
It'll pass away like a slow parade
It's leaving but I don't know how soon

And the world's got me dizzy again
You think after 22 years I'd be used to the spin
And it only feels worse when I stay in one place
So I'm always pacing around or walking away
I keep drinking the ink from my pen
And I'm balancing history books up on my head
But it all boils down to one quotable phrase
If you love something, give it away

A good woman will pick you apart
A box full of suggestions for your possible heart
But you may be offended and you may be afraid
But don't walk away, don't walk away

We made love on the living room floor
With the noise in background of a televised war
And in the deafening pleasure I thought I heard someone say
ìIf we walk away, theyíll walk away

But greed is a bottomless pit
    And our freedom's a joke
    We're just taking a piss
And the whole world must watch the sad comic display
If you're still free start running away
    Cause we're coming for you!

I've grown tired of holding this post
I feel more like a stranger each time I come home
So I'm making a deal with the devils of faith
Saying let me walk away, please
You'll be free child once you have died
From the shackles of language and immeasurable time
And then we can trade places, play musical grace
Till then walk away, walk away

    So I'm up at dawn
    Putting on my shoes
I just want to make a clean escape
Iím leaving but I don't know where to
I know Iím leaving but I don't know where to

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
    We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
    I really need you tonight
    Forever's gonna start tonight
    Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
    Nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
    Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

    Turn around bright eyes
    Turn around bright eyes
    Turn around

The Bush junta must really be getting scared of what Fitzgerald might be uncovering in his investigation.

Now the WH has ordered Sen. Roberts of Kansas (chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) to investigate, not the manipulation of prewar intelligence (as he promised would happen before the 2004 election and has now decided that there isn't time to do so), the Niger forgeries or the Plame disclosure, but to investigate Fitzgerald himself and his investigation.

And there is now talk that AG Gonzales might fire Fitzgerald before he concludes his investigation.

Are you serious? Was this speculation on the part of some journalists? Did it come from whitehouse sources that they were thinking of firing Fitzgerald?

What a horrible abuse of power by the whitehouse. The scary thing is that they could probably get away with that kind of totalitarian move, and not many would notice.

I don't know what evidence Fitzgerald has and doesn't have, but it has been enough convince a number of federal judges to move the case along.
