Do you feel that 'outing' covert CIA agents who specialize in the field of WMDs helps us fight terrorism ~ particularly terrorist groups that might choose to use nuclear, chemical, biological agents?

Do you really believe that Bill getting a blowjob weakened national security? Coz I remember back then a female republican senator very vocal about it, and painted all kinds of scenarios that Clinton might be blackmailed by enemies etc. Wait, maybe he was blackmailed.

Yes. I think Durbin's comments were stupid. I don't think they hurt our effort on terrorism.

However a CIA agent who is an expert in WMD's and is part of a phony undercover business which also provides cover from a number of other under cover CIA agents, and their contacts.

I'm not sure how Durbin's comments would actually hurt our effort to fight terrorism at all. In fact it shows those in a region struggling to have more emerging democracies the kinds of freedom of speech we can have in the U.S.A.

But anyway knowingly eliminating WMD experts from being of use in our war on terroris, while blowing the cover of other Covert CIA agents would be much more of a blow to our abilities to fight terrorism, than one congressman's comments made while trying to ensure that we uphold our standards.

    Are you freaking serious?!?!?!

A$$clownish statements like Durbin's are quite literally all talk.Nothing he said even remotely impacted our fight against terrorists. The most impact Durbin's statement had was on himself as a result of the media backlash (The Daily Show destroyed Durbin for his idiocy) and had absolutely zero impact on the War on Terror.

Whoever leaked Plame's name burned an undercover asset (we know she was undercover because the CIA is the agency that referred the case to the Justice Department and they would be in the best position to know her status) as well as her cover business and all operatives who had ever been linked to it. She was an operative working on WMD issues, the very issues that are central to the War on Terror.

You need to check your water source. I think there might be acid in your kool-aid based on your disconnect from reality.

btw, if you're interested in a, largly, un-biased look at all the moving parts to this story this site is essential reading. while they're sceptical of much of the case, they certainly don't go easy on the right.

    Thanks for the link Batman.

Interesting. The libs would have us believe that Val Plame was in Osama's cave, ready to pounce, when the leak broke. In reality, she had a desk job at Langley? What kind of undercover operation is that? Hardly undercover at all when anyone who sniffed around could plainly see her going to Langley on a daily basis.

Just how desperate are these libs when this 'scandal' is the best they can come up with? Sad, really.

Why are demeaning agents who are working for the govt. for the security of our nation, but are stationed at Langley instead of elsewhere? Would you demean or trivialize the duty our troops are doing who happened to be stationed stateside at the moment instead of overseas?

The fact is that Plame had an official status. That status was NOC. It has already been pointed out there are plenty of other agents with the same status who are currently working at Langley. That doesn't change their official status, or the fact that they are serving our nation.

Exposing anyone operative like this and then casting aspersions on how relevant their job, and in reality all others who are also stationed at langley are, is a low blow.

It is strange for someone like TJ and Basso to claim to honor and support those who server our nation as patriots to dismiss this woman who has been serving our natioan and its interests in the critical field so easily, and then some go on to trivialize the work of all the agents who are assigned to Langley.

Uh, no. Just pointing out the difference between how the libs portray Plame as a deep undercover operative, inches away from Osama, and the reality, which appears to be a desk job at Langley.

in fairness, i don't think this is the strongest arguement admin supporters have. My brother spent several years in INR at state (yes, that INR, the one that wrote the memo powell was showing around on AF1), as a "desk-bound spy". although he wasn't in deep cover, he and his collegues were forbidden from acknowledging one another if they met in public, and he couldn't talk about much of what he did there.

there are plenty of other reasons Plame may not meet the NOC standard, and there's certainly a ton of evidence to suggest this is all just a political scandal cooked up by opponents of the war (what, us endager national security?), but the fact she worked at langly doesn't mean she was "in the open."

So basso do you concede that Rove may have gotten the info on Plame from this memo and not from reporters as he claims?

Rove may have gotten his info from the burning Bush for all we know, and we won't know until fitzgerald issues his goddam report.

also, FB keeps claiming Plame was a NOC, or in his locution NOC. the term stands for "non-official cover" and it may have been true while she was overseas, but once she came home, in 1997, and began working at langly she certainly didn't have non-official cover status. that doesn't mean she wasn't "under cover" but NOC is a special status that puts her at the mercy of foreign governments should be be caught; not applicable if one is posted to the US.

Her status was NOC, she may not have been active over-seas where that would fall into play if she were apprehended, but her status comes from the CIA. It isn't up for debate. It is a matter of record. People can claim she wasn't really this or wasn't really that, but she had an official status at the time, and no matter what others want to say about it, the status isn't determined by them. It is determined by the CIA. If you don't like the fact that her status was NOC take it up with the CIA.

do you have some backup for your assertion? you are correct that she was a NOC, but NOC status makes no sense if she wasn't posted overseas.
