I agree that Kenny is a much better fit in Philly than he ever would have been here. He was too in love with his outside shot, had goot post moves but wasn't a good finisher. He could rebound well for his size and was a pretty solid defender, but he didn't provide anything that we don't already get with either Cato or Taylor. Cato is more solid on the boards and on defense, Taylor is more solid on the offensive end. Kenny is kind of a meld of the two with all skills dulled slightly.
if kenny stayed, yao would have got less shots...this whole thing about going through Yao first offense would have been delayed considerably... we would still be mediocre-poor.... never look back
And what's Philly's record, despite being in the stepchild conference? I think KT got some skillz, but he's a classic Eastern Conference forward.
The Cato/Yao frontline is the lynchpin to our defense. KT's size alone makes him a liability. If Rudy didn't trade him, Jeff would've by virtue of bringing a better guy who'd fit into his system.
He was traded for James Posey. Have you been following James' performance lately? You'll get a convincing answer.
I am a big fan of Kenny, but one of our problems right now is an abundance of pretty good power forwards, but not one really good power forward. Having Kenny still here (at any price) would not change that.
Yap, yap, yap. Kenny was a solid hustle player, undersized but valuable. He did dribble a little too much but we showed loyalty to the head case with potential who was buddies with the kids of one of our execs (breathe, continue), that being Eddie Griffin. So we get rid of the surly guy. You know, maybe he was surly because he saw all the attention paid to the head case kiss-A? And if not, so what. All I'm saying is, we lost a really solid player for nothing, and then lost The Next Garnett, too (yeah, OK). Posey would have been the perfect small forward on this JVG team. And now we're still looking for that 3. Granted, there is the luxury tax, which hasn't kicked in yet, but if we actually kept a team out there that was entertaining to watch (i.e., better than this one, despite what recent strides we have made), maybe our revenue would be such that we could have kept Kenny and, if not, Posey.
For everyone talking about Kenny Thomas being a black hole, do you honestly think that would have continued under JVG? I think the problem with Kenny is that in the west he has to go up against Tim Duncan, Karl Malone(when he's healthy), possibly Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand, etc. While Kenny could probably score on most of them, it would be very hard for him to defend them. On the other hand he would be great for defending those mobile PF's like Miller from the Kings that give us so much trouble. We wouldn't have been SOL if he had kept Kenny, and we wouldn't have been saved from all evil by keeping Kenny either. He was a hard worker, who would have done whatever it took to fit in here. However, now he's getting a bigger paycheck, putting up better numbers, and we have a record that would put us into the playoffs. I miss KT sometimes but I think things have worked out pretty well.
To this day, I see Kenny T could have been a good compliment along the side of Yao Ming and The Rocks. He is going to be missed!
the problem was at this time we have three power foward we look at eddie as ours saviors and rudy t trade kenny to other team for get playing time and we get ours small foward on posey the team don't see the play off and rudy got fired and we just fu** up when eddie get the depresion and all his bull sh8t. is a sad recap
The Rockets would have made the playoffs last year had they not traded KT. Rudy T & Co. sacrificed for what they thought was best for the future of the team, and Les rewarded him by giving him the boot.
All I've got to say is losing Kenny Thomas for nothing is not looking like a very smart move right now. I don't know why people are ripping Kenny T's time with the Rockets. All I remember is him being the most energetic aggresive Rocket on the floor at all times. I thought trading Thomas to get Posey was a good move if you were not going to trade Mo Taylor and if you were planning on resigning Posey. By not signing Posey, in fact showing little interest in resigning Posey, this move sadly looks like a cost cutting move. It's a sign that while the Rockets have a history of being a little more loose with the pocket book as compared to other Houston sports franchises, the organization is still a step below the league's best spending franchises. Having an owner that isn't afraid to go over the cap doesn't guarantee success, but it is clearly a good formula for getting your franchise into contention when you look around the league.
Does anybody remember what a black hole he was?? I don't remember he ever pass a ball!! And he is a such negtive force on the team, he's the only one that never stand up to cheer for his team on the bench. I'm glad that he's gone, never liked him.
Once again, we blame Les and CD for signing Mooch, Mo, and Cato to ridiculously long contracts...and then we blame Les and CD for NOT signing Posey and KT to ridiculously long contracts. Gotta love hindsight. BTW, KT's stats would be cut in half if he played in the West. Plus, besides Iverson's 50 shots a game, who else on that horrible team is going to score?
kenny was furious about being traded because he'd bought a house and was planning on settling down in houston. in the media he's mentioned about settling in houston after his nba career winds down.
