Is Morey the drafting genius and Hinkie the trading guru?

Hinkie is pulling trades left and right in philly, albeit with a lot of cap room and a horrible team at the moment, but was he the catalyst and driver of all the trades we had success with in previous years?

Hinkie has taken moneyball to the extreme and lumped together a loser's-culture team buried in hell.

    Morey > Hinkie

    Playoff Team > Tanking Team

Two Superstars > Good Role Players

    Winning Team > Losing Team

These responses are not answering the question though. We pulled off Harden, Martin, Scola and unloaded t whack for a haul to name a few trades while Hinkie was here.

We all know the 76ers are buried in a hole. I also believe Morey is the better GM but maybe not as well rounded as we may think or want to believe. Great drafter no doubt but trader?

They are operating under completely different circumstances and parameters, can't really compare the situations. Losing Hinkie was by all accounts a negative for us, but Morey seems to have set us up time and time again to pounce on big opportunities. I don't think Hinkie's absence has hindered us as much as it's just given Morey and Rosas more work to do/oversee.

We were in asset liquidation/flip mode before we acquired Harden (and then Dwight). It's easier to pull off deals when aren't married to 25-30% of the salary cap.

Can you name one trade Hinkie pulled off in Philly that even Billy King wouldn't be able to?

    No?

We've slowed down because we don't have the flexibility to make a bunch of trades nor the need to swing for the fences to get a single all-star on the roster.

Landing the 1st superstar is the hardest. Morey preserved our cap flexiblity to have room for another superstar. Different situations. Hinkie has the ability to tank.

You can make a lot more trades when there are few risks. If the Rockets trade for Rondo and it fails, they’ve just derailed a potential contender. If the Sixers trade for random guy and he has season-ending surgery, well, so what? After Dwight Howard signed, every move the Rockets make carries a huge risk with it. Not the case with pre-Dwight Rockets because you can’t truly screw up a 40 win team. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? The Rockets win 30 games instead? But the difference between 54 wins and 49 wins last years was actually making the playoffs.

Morey’s making less moves because he no longer has room to freely wheel and deal.

Check out the Jason Terry trade this year. See what the Rockets gave up and what we got.

Hinkie is a good trader no doubt.

Helping us get Harden and Beverley.

But you're forgetting Morey is still the wizard.

In the 2013 - 2014 season, Morey traded Thomas Robinson for two future second round picks and two draft rights --- one of them being Big Papa. Who is now helping our bench.

He also unloaded Royce White, thanks to Hinkie. But either way, that was a good trade.

Furthermore we got Terry and a couple of picks after trading Gee.
