Stop pretending to be a Rockets fan. Go to the Dallas forums.

    Yes. Absolutely.

No team will re-sign him except Houston Rockets.

He has done a good job this season but Rockets should have waited till after the playoffs.

My biggest complaint regarding McHale is that he is not too bright when it comes to making changes on the fly, which is what is needed in a 7 game series.

Again, not sure what the rush was. Rockets could have made the decision after the playoffs.

I met coach Dunn at work last week. It was slow and he would of probably gotten faster service if he got a number instead of waiting for me, but old habits are hard to break. He was accompanied by a rockets security guy who has been thru the office a number of times over the years.

Tbh I didn't know who Dunn was. The security guy told me he was a rockets coach. It wasn't until i went home and googled his name that I remembered his name from the nba back in the day. I really didn't know he was with the rockets until that day at the office.

Of course it was a mistake. Mchale is a terrible coach. Does nothing to inspire confidence in big games.

It's either we get lucky and have a few players go off, or we lose.

    Steve Kerr >>>>> McHale

    Box scores don't lie...

    Ariza ..........6pts________Green..........18pts
    Dmo...........4pts________Barnes......... 11pts
    Howard.......7pts________Bogut............ 9pts
    Beverley......6pts________Curry...........22pts
    Harden......33pts________Thompson.....27pts

With the exception of the MVP, Kerr managed to shut down all of our starters!
It's pretty obvious that they had a better game plan, from a better coach!...:(

you can bring in john stockton circa 1992, but if you hesitate to play to his strengths you gain nothing from it. what i'm trying to say is give big man bol! white hakeem for the win!

Not FIRING him immediately after the playoff embarassment at home where he got humiliated by unknown Stotts was a mistake.

Giving him this stupid 3 year contract on the basis of a soft schedule to start was an even bigger mistake. The guy is as clueless as it gets. He should be nowhere near coaching any YMCA team let alone a NBA team.

He could probably coach some U-12 girls basketball team where he can tell them to "play harder" "clap "clap"

Was really disappointed in seeing McHale be given an extension and not earning. Where is the evidence that he has earned a 3 yr extension. Our entire coaching staff is suspect, what coach is out there that can get Dwight to perform PnR and stop posting up so much. Stop Josh from jumping in air to pass and taking bad shots, James play consistent defense, get everyone to move on Defense and Offense, and share the ball.

    McHale is not the issue.

The issue is the make-up of the team.

Look at what the Warriors did. They had Mark Jackson, who did a good job of making the team relevant again. However, the owners recognized that despite his short-term success, Jackson's deficiencies at coach would mean that the team would always be good but not great. So they let him go and got a better replacement. No complacency.

Compare that with what the Rockets did. I agree with the posters that they should have let McHale go after that embarrassing first-round exit last year. But they did the opposite of what Golden State did, and now I fear we will continue to be good, but not great.

I think we'll get out of the first round this year, but my expectations for a deep playoff are low. Coaching matters. This situation sucks.

Unfortunately we have an owner who's content with regular season success, so he rewarded McHale for that. It was a stupid, premature and entirely unnecessary move(like McHale was really gonna bolt for another team after this year?), and it's one the organization will pay dearly for in the years to come assuming Les isn't willing to eat a huge chunk of that contract should the team continue to underachieve.

What's maddening is that this is a trend with the Rockets. Rewarding people who've accomplished d-ck because of a miniscule sample of success. They handed out a $42 million contract to Kelvin Cato after one great preseason game. They gave Matt Maloney a long-term deal because of one decent season. Moochie got a lengthy deal because of a career night in a triple OT win over Indiana. Mo Taylor got a 6 year, $48 million deal even after suffering a season ending injury.

There's a reason they've been mired in mediocrity for so long. Because they inexplicably keep handing out big contracts to mediocre players and coaches.

Morey and Les are at fault. Extending Mchale, after proving absolutely nothing this year, will set our team back another 3-5years. GS exposed the difference between a talented team with a great coach, and a talented team with a TERRIBLE coach only here to bring "another superstar". Steve Kerr's been there half a year and is already doing things Mchale hasn't accomplished in his time here. Very stupid move

One sobering thought. Harden's contract comes to an end the same year McHale's extension does. If Les retains McHale for the duration of his new deal and things continue with this team the way they have the previous 3 1/2 years under his "leadership", does anyone think Harden remains a Rocket beyond 2017-18? Yeah, me neither.

So when those of us who voted yes try to emphasize how stupid and costly that extension could be, THIS is what we mean. Not only potentially wasting a huge chunk of the prime of a very special player, but prompting him to seek greener pastures elsewhere once his current deal is up. And frankly, who could blame him?

I don't think we need to regret it because they can just fire the guy. It's not my money. Just hope someone has the balls to do it if needed.
