we got out of the 1st round because we played the weakest opponent and best matchup we have had since the title runs in the 90s, NOT because of artest. i think even the team with francis, mobley, and a young ming could have beat the blazers. hey it was great gettin to the 2nd round, but there are no 2nd round trophies
It was worth it. He brought great memories to us. I understand him that he wouldn't want to sign with us because we were back to that rebuilding stage again. If Tmac and Yao were both healthy, he would be back as a Rocket for sure. BTW, I couldnt make it on time with the VSPAN thread but I think VSPAN was worth it also because we got scola
We are talking about a Rockets team that won 55 games, and we only got to that point NOT on a roster of Francis, Mobley and young Yao, but a roster of Yao, Artest and some good role players. I don't believe that the 2003 roster could've achieved the success of the 09 team, so they wouldn't have gotten the 5th seed in the first place. So what if it was the best matchup, the weakest opponent? Artest was a major factor in getting us there and further.
And what makes you think Milwaukee would have settled for a low expiring deal and 2 low first rounders?
Yes. And not just image. I think it didn't escape Jackson's notice that one of the reasons the Rockets did play tough was the attitude Artest brought to the team. The influence of a player like Artest is tangible. Now LA expects that influence in THEIR locker room. From that perspective, Artest gave something to the team that will last beyond his tenure. To a lesser or greater extent, his demeanor got integrated into the other personalities on the team. The intangibles that LA expects from Artest couldn't have been supplied by Ariza.
