Was Correa the right player to go over the luxury tax for?

Discussion in 'Houston Astros' started by strosb4bros, Jul 31, 2025 at 9:15 PM.

Going over lux tax for Correa

  1. Yes, he will make a difference

  2. No, he's a negative WAR player who will take up field space when Paredes returns

  3. No, he won't make enough of a difference

Yeah, Correa could absolutely come in here and keep being mediocre the rest of the season. Even worse he could get hurt. There’s a legitimate argument to be made that either of those could happen.

That said, if you’ve been a fan of this team longer than 10 years, you know this kind of stuff never happened previously. McLane would have never gotten on the phone and called the Twins chairman eager to spend more money and go into the luxury tax. We’ve got a legit chance to go to the World Series again this season. What more can you ask for…

Imagine the feels if Correa comes back and has a JV like impact in 2017 and we somehow win it all. He just had a .905 OPS last season so he’s still capable of putting together a great run. In 2023 he had an OPS above 1.000 in the playoffs for the Twins. I’d take him up to bat in a huge spot over anyone on this team right now besides maybe Yordan, assuming he comes back healthy and himself. We can worry about the future this offseason.

This trade reminds me of Clyde Drexer to the Rockets. Part of me want Correa back because I think this will prolong Tuve's career. And most important to the team someone who will defend HTown.

I don't know, but the obvious narratives supported by him and so many others on both sides of the aisle with such vitriol,is why I left the D&D forum.

    I no longer feel dirty.

The only reason that just 91% voted "Yes, he will make difference" is due to the amount of people that have the OP on ignore and will never see this thread.

I think it's going exactly how he was hoping. He's just trolling at this point.

I didn't even notice there was a poll, lol. Hilarious that he wasn't content with yes or no - but yes, no or hell no. Even funnier, Correa has never had a negative WAR season.

And I don't understand this idea that Correa has any impact on Paredes, who has played every infield position at the MLB level. It's not going to be an issue finding spots for Correa, Paredes, Pena, Altuve, etc.

Guys, I'm really concerned that trading away Matt Mikulski is going to haunt this organization FOREVER.

Correa put up 4 WAR last year in under 90 games and was an All Star. That was last season.

People are acting like he’s completely washed based on small sample sizes.

Fangraphs projects him for 114 WRC+ and 1 War in 45 games for the rest of the season. There is a lot of red on underlying batting metrics on his Baseball Savant page.

Paredes is out. Look at who the Astros would be playing if they didn’t get Correa. From a contract perspective the Astros are only on the hook for $23M a year until his age 33 season.

He’s not an Astro again because other teams think he’s washed. He’s an Astro again because he had a no trade clause and wanted to be an Astro. There is very little downside and potentially a ton of upside to this trade.

Fans should be ecstatic the Astros made this move even if it doesn’t work out.

It's still not confirmed if the Astros actually went over the luxury tax.

Ok, now I'm just straight up Astroking myself. The overwhelmingly arousing degree of excitement is simply outrageous at this point.

    Have mercy, Jiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmohoh!

His OPS over the last 3 months is .771

Altuve is a GREAT player and a GREAT example, but he isn't the onfield leader that Correa is
