Defense isn't rocket science, it is largely about effort and energy. You stop the other team from doing what they want to do by harassing the dookey out of them. Watch the Grizz and see how it is done.

transition defense. As another 3 pointer clanks off the rim, our players should take a quick look around. Court awareness. Perhaps they see a player running past them in a different colored jersey. they should become alert. If they have an orange ball in their hand, they should strongly consider joining them at the other end of the floor to see what all the fuss is about.

We're missing 2 starters that both happen to be 2 of the better defenders on the entire roster and they are replaced with an aging 3 point shooter that isn't hitting his 3's very well who plays no defense at all and a bench quality PF that has no clue how to play defense.....but he has the physical ability to if he happens to accidentally be in the right position and the other player isn't very good.

That has a way of killing the team's defense.

we have freaking trevor ariza and dwight howard? how we still give up 100 plus points is unbelievable. They are not disciplined and that falls on the defensive assistant coach.

I don't think many of you all understand what a good defensive team means.
The reason a team gives up a lot of points is not by not playing good defense, but by playing an uptempo game.
More possesions per team means more chances of scoring. The Rockets are a good defensive team when they play well. They close out on 3's limit fast breaks and clog up the paint to not allow easy buckets. That's when they play well.
A high scoring game simply means the game was uptempo, stop believing what Barkley says. Believe the numbers.
If the Rockets slowed the game down, dumped it down to Dwight every possession, then the score would be low because each team took less shots, simple as that.
But we play fast paced, jack up 3's and the more we shoot, the more chances of scoring, but that goes both ways.
If we play good defense, we will create a point cushion to where then we can slow the game down and play with the clock in our favor.

We also have freaking Jason Terry and Terrence Jones in the starting lineup.....I'm sure that helps A LOT in giving up 120 points.

The clippers last game were simply making shots, Reddick couldn't freaking miss, Rivers couldn't miss, Crawford couldn't miss, and yes we didn't play good defense at times, but watch the tape, and those 3 players made some crazy contested shots. Nothing we can do about that, but hope they miss them tonight.
On the other hand, while we are worried about defense I think it is our offense that is lacking. Missing 3's, missing layups, missing free throws, turning it over.

A lot of rivers' baskets were in transition and well...

In regards to Barkley, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

"A good defence doesn't give up 118 points" - that argument is "turrible," it's like he doesn't know what pace is.

He's a former basketball player, that doesn't stay informed and hasn't updated his knowledge on the game as it has evolved. His opinions are often very dated.

Anybody trying to push the fact the rockets are a good defensive team with stats from the RS is misleading people. The discipline...court awareness...rotations are all nonexistent. I can't believe what I'm seeing .

i expected them to pick up the defense in vs the clippers but it got worse. its not a lack of players, not even effort though they could've gave some. its the switching. switch switch switch. they should rename the team the houston switchers since they love being lazy on defense and switchign everytime they see a screen. the whole defensive scheme is r****ded.

They are now poor defensively because they replaced 2 PLUS defensive starters in Bev and DMO with 2 HUGE defensive liabilities in Terry and Jones. There is a drastic 2 player swing in the lineup, this isn't the same team from most of the season, its a lesser team.

We suck on defense because you can't be a good defensive team giving up 30 fast break points every night. I lost count of all the times when we missed shots we had absolutely no one behind our own free throw line for some sort of defensive balance. It was horrible both these games in LA and Dallas was killing us on fast break points as well.

We are totally mismatched inside against the Clippers Jordan is a better athlete than Dwight at this point in his career and we have no one thats even close to matching up with Griffin.

Rockets look horrible because Harden can't create because he's contested on all his drives and the referees just don't call games the way they do in the regular season its the ****ing playoffs and I want the players deciding games not the the refs deciding who can fall down the best is who wins a series.

We seem to be worried about foul calls and not competing and not caring enough to get back on ****ing defense is pitiful and there is no excuse for it, and I don't expect the next game to be any different.

Harden and Dwight deserve this criticism because they were brought here to win and Harden's bad play and Dwight committing silly fouls every game is killing what little chance we had in this series to begin with. Dwight has been in foul trouble just about every game the entire playoffs and he's been in the league too long to be playing this dumb.
