This only gives Dragic an edge if Dragic is willing to be signed for money that anywhere near Kyle's very modest contract, which, as a UFA, is unlikely. When you consider that, and the fact that in order to trade Lowry you need to factor in a 3rd party participant that has something we want and is willing to deal, it puts the odds of Goran being retained fairly low. Mind you, cap space saved from not handing out a large contract *is* an asset, especially when the contract you're considering is going to a position of already relative strength.

Dragic has the tools to be one of the elite PGs of the league. He plays in the style of Nash and Parker in terms of keeping his dribble alive and having great court vision. He is in attack mode all the time.

If the FO is smart, they would sign him up (up to 8M) and figure out how he and Kyle split minutes.

Wouldn't you rather have Dragic @ $10M on a Rockets team with Pau Gasol, than Lowry @ $5M on a Rockets team which is the same as it is now?

    Yes.

    Think about this.....

Dragic at $10M plus potentially a guy like Thomas Robinson on a rookie scale deal with Lowry and Scola gone.

Dragic has been the man. I'm just ecstatic that the Rox have him. I dont know whats gonna happen when Lowry gets back, but I think Dragic would be a much better fit going forward. Also, I have him on my fantasy team and I'm in the playoffs right now so there's that :D

I was never on board with trading Lowry for Gasol (Martin and Scola, on the other hand...), and I'm very hesitant to overpay Dragic.

And in either case, the "Lowry for Gasol" ship has all but sailed.

Find me a new dance partner that can give us top dollar for Kyle, and get Goran promised to a more reasonable contract, and I'll be happy as a clam.

Is it overpaying if that is his market value?

If there are other teams willing to offer him $10M/yr+ (not saying there are but teams like Charlotte, New Orleans, Portland, Phoenix possibly could), then isn't that how much he is worth?

Is $40M/4 (example) years a bad contract for him? 4 years is not that long of a time (after 2 years, it is a short-term deal and has value for teams looking to dump larger contracts).

$10M/year today is not the same as $10M/year several years ago and the new CBA makes contracts shorter term making teams want to take a flier on guys like Dragic who shown that they can play at that level (as a starter, he is for sure playing on that level).

When you have a comparable PG on your team getting paid $5M, spending $10M for his counterpart is overpaying.

Edit: Overpaying may not be the correct term (although I think $10M based on his number of starts is overpaying, personally), "overspending" may be more fitting. If he's worth $10M on the open market, then paying him that would be wasteful, considering what we have. Unless somebody is willing to give us the sun, moon, and the stars for Lowry.
