Living in SF has really made me embrace the Euro model of dealing with the mentally ill. If you're taking a dump in the middle of a cafe, welcome to an enforced group home environment. Your personal "freedoms" should end once you are clearly not in your right mind. But for now, San Francisco is a testing ground for crazies gone wild. It's really depressing, over and over again. "Sure, the dude is killing himself out on the sidewalks chewing cardboard and driving other people nuts, but... it's his right to be crazy and end his life this way." Yeah, whateverusay.
That's one of the perks about being homeless. You don't have to follow societies rules and you can s**t wherever you please.
Starbucks is awesome in smaller or mid-sized towns, but that business and service model basically guarantees a lot of extra loitering in bigger cities.
Classic San Fran. The bay is such a beautiful place, but downtown san francisco is one of the least romantic places to be. You are literally stepping over homeless peoples urine and dogs **** while watching druggies and hobos fight and yell at each other.
My room mate in Tel Aviv used to make a point to give money to the hardest looking junkies and used to yell at me for picking up my dog's poop. He said I wasn't doing my part to keep rent low and gentrification at bay. Maybe San Francisco is on to something.
Sounds like he was making some sort of statement against Starbucks, be it political, economical, or social.
All the other SF stories on that one are making me laugh and dry heave at the same time. Ultimately I guess the cops must just be told to let it slide, cuz I can't imagine them ignoring it anywhere else.
