Warriors Guard Appears At Court Legally Intoxicated For DWI Case

NBA veteran Charlie Bell had a date in court in Flint, Michigan on Thursday stemming from an October arrest for drunken driving, driving on a suspended license and failing to stop at a stop sign. Yet instead of turning the page from that public, and very dangerous, misstep, the guard opened a new chapter in an increasingly troubled life.

After arriving for court, Bell was held in police custody for several hours because he was legally intoxicated. According to the San Francisco Gate, Bell's case was set to be resolved Thursday morning, until Bell blew a reported .09 during a pre-scheduled alcohol assessment, which was .01 above the legal limit.

Bell was held in a Flint district court holding cell on a bond violation until he sobered up.

This incident is the latest in a string of problems for Bell, who was allegedly stabbed by his wife last May and was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last February.

Bell, who has spent most of his career with the Bucks, was born in Flint and played college basketball at nearby Michigan State. He averaged 1.7 points per game in 19 games with the Warriors last season.

On Sunday, the Warriors used the new amnesty provision to waive Bell.

I wouldn't call a story of an alcoholic showing up to court for a dwi intoxicated randomly hilarious.

.09 is like two beers. Or four beers two hours before your court case. I suppose it's disconcerting that he's drinking in the middle of the day (probably satisfies enough CAGE criteria to get called an alcoholic), and the fact that he did it before his court case suggests he also meets the criteria for alcohol abuse (drinking in the face of negative social consequences). Not good for him any way you cut it, but yeah I've seen much worse.
