I noticed all of this "discussion" too... I think he very much deserves to get in, and probably will next year or so... Also, the stuff that happened this last year with the Plano police (my home town now) was more about his brother than him. He just got all the negative pub because of his past. My wife has met him, and he signed a magazine for my son... he is actually a client at her job... he's really not all that way in person, it's kind of like a persona he emits in the spotlight. I think he's really pretty decent. Link to the magazine cover he signed... which happened to be a church publication.
I still remember where I was when he threw for over 500 yards against the Chiefs in Kansas City. Why don't the Texans have a "Houston Football Hall of Fame" day next year? We should honor all the old Oilers in the HOF (Bethea, Munchak, Earl, Whiteshoes Johnson, Moon) at halftime.
Man, those playoff losses against the Broncos, Bills, and Chiefs...absolutely killed me. Those Oilers teams were awesome and should have won all 3 of those games. Cant help to think, what if?
Man...after seeing this photo...I really miss the Oilers. I wish there were some way Bud would release the name and unis and the Texans can switch back to the Oilers. It just reminds me of all that I loved as a child growing up in Houston watching football. I assume the Titans will retire #1, if they haven't already. Was #34 retired? I find it weird to see Morency in a #34 in Houston...eventhough the Texans are a different organization..it just seems wrong to have a Texans wear #34 being they are in Houston. Maybe it's just me!!!
I'm glad that Moon got in, much deserved. However, I am very dissapointed about Derrick Thomas being left out. I know he will get in eventually, but I cannot stand voters leaving people off just because they are not "first ballot" material in their minds. A Hall of Famer is a Hall of Famer to me, why not vote for them the first time if you are going to vote for them down the line?
Not sure of hwo the voting went, but they can only take 6 candidates in a given year, so maybe there just wasn't enough room for him.
anyone notice they've had some moon stuff up on the texans website.?.. so the team does seem to be at least recognizing his houston connection
http://titansonline.com/news/newsmain_detail.php?PRKey=3584 makes me sick to see him on a titans site
munchak is in; mathews will be a no-doubt, first ballot hall of famer when he's eligible. otherwise, no one else from those teams stand a snowball's chance. campbell's number was retired in... '86 or '87. to my knowledge, no former oiler has had their # retired since the team moved to tennessee, but moon, munchak and mathews would be the only legit remaining candidates (and, technically, mcnair and george, but their best years were in nashville).
"I know I had a guy who argued my case extremely well," Moon said, referring to Houston Chronicle writer John McClain, who spoke on Moon's behalf in the committee meeting. link
Nice of you to notice. Besides, I believe Felicia called it all off, as in it was really a mutual fracas, and she publically stated on live TV that he never really "beat" her.
The only reason it really irritates me is because it calls the organization that he played for the "Oilers/Titans organization." Warren Moon didn't play for the Oilers/Titans nor did he play for the Titans, he played for the Houston freakin' Oilers.
It's weird that so many people are suprised at Moon getting into the HOF. Top five all time in passing yards, completions, and TD passes. Add in his CFL numbers, and I think he's number one in all those categories...
Congrats to Warren! I hope the Texans do something in his honor next season. They can do it when the Titans are in town if they have to. He should not be honored in Tennessee.
In an age of 81 pts. . and 113 pts Warren could have EASILY broken that record but he . . in the ultimate class says. . . NAaa . . . I'm good Rocket River
