    One of the aspects of this story that goes underreported is that they kick most of the boys out of the community at a really young age... usually on some trumped up charge resulting from kissing a girl or cussing or listening to just about any kind of music. That means much less competition for the geezers, who then get their pick of the girls.

    The whole setup is really disturbing. The girls have their humanity taken away from them and the boys are cast out into the world without the knowledge and skills to survive and banned from contacting their families ever again.

    I saw a special on one of the news shows and they made it sound like until he was arrested the town was basically a smorgasborg of young girls for him. He would keep adding wives.

    i just saw the title and thought the girls were just being removed cuz no one will be taking care of them anymore. i brieftly caught the news while doing taxes yesterday.

    on the news, there was this lady who was really angry that they were taking them away or something. she was yelling something like they believe whatever they want to believe, not your business.

    isn't polygamy legal in a lot of the mideast contries anyways?

    I'm sure you think it would serve as a useful tool in countering anti-Tibet discussions, but this IS NOT about polygamy. It is about forced marriage and sex on 14 year old girls.

    Warren Jeffs was arrested for statutory rape of a minor. The same is true of his followers.

    There are plenty of ‘groups’ in the USA who live in polygamous relationships. I'm sure they are not totally happy with what the law gives them. They aren’t legally recognized. The wives after the first have no legal marriage protections before the law. There is no right to allamony, etc. for the second, third, fourth, etc.

    But nobody interferes with consenting adults. As long as minors aren’t involved, and everybody is honest with each other about what is going on, polygamous relationships are not against the law.

    Forcing sex on little children does not equal venerating the Dali Lama.

    what the hell man. stop be so paranoid and uptight about everything. did i mention anything about tibet and china?

    this dude has been on news for years, i was just wondering why is it NOW that they started to take them away. and like i said, i didn't read the whole thing. gees, some of you are way out of your head.

    Can't imagine the Dalai Lama of US and his peace loving, pious followers are still being persecuted in this day and age.

    if polygamy is legalized then there wouldn't be a need for these religions to form separate communities within the society.
    I think polygamy is a good way to reduce single-parent family and control population by having one male breeds with multiple females and increase the among of related people who are not allowed to produce offsprings.

    if you got game, you don't need polygamy. i can't imagine dealing with that many wives. it'll drive you crazy. you don't need to marry all the women you sleep with. that's crazy. think about divorce fees.
