Exactly. Ward blows. The only reason why he isn't in the CBA right now is because most guards in the NBA are just as bad if not worse than he is. But I don't hate you, Charlie. Get your freebie dawg.
Ward has not committed to San Antonio. Craig Segar wanted a scoop so bad on national tv that he reported false information. I'll trust the San Antonio paper over Craig Seger. We should know by today though.
I really doubt JVG would make such a bold move like this during the season. He would probably do it this offseason after a few personnel moves/evaluations.
That was Feigan in today's paper in Houston after talking to Ward's agent. I'll take the Houston rag today over SA yesterday....
It could of been. Or he would play backup to Francis? I don't think Ward would like that too much....
For those of you that aren't very good with numbers... The $638,000 is the pro-rata'd figure, down from the veteran's minimum of $1 million.
How do you figure? Go read Feigen's exact quote from the article... "Instead, they can offer only a pro-rated portion of his minimum, $638,000." $638K is the base and the pro-rated is 45/82.
Now that Ward's out, I think we should start looking at Jamal Crawford. Paxon is trying to deal him and the Rockets could use a big ball-handling PG. Even though we have won 4 of 5 games, and I'm not into trade threads, I think the Rockets could be a whole lot better with a true PG and moving Francis to the 2. Cato/Cat/1st rounder for Crawford/Curry? We could start Crawford and move SF to the 2. Curry could become a nice asset to Yao, starting at PF or giving Yao a good backup.
I wouldn't trade Cato period. At this point he is our strongest rebounder and inside the paint defender. I'd hate to see our defensive numbers without him. He and Yao are a great combo.
I wish he'd come to Houston, but I think he wants the ring and he'll have a better chance the next two years in SA, vs. the Rox.. Does that mean Ford is back...
Althought your right, Cato is playing the best basketball of his career, he's still at best a very-good BACK-UP center. If he has any trade value at all right now then I say deal him. Although the trade proposed above has no chance of ever going down (the Bulls can't be that stupid), I think tough, rebounding, defensive-minded players can be found at a much cheaper price. Keon Clark for example could be had for the exception this summer. I'm not trying to say Cato is equal to Clark, but dollar for dollar your getting more bang for the buck. IMHO.
Last year, Steve Kerr's play killed both Dallas and New Jersey in game 6 down the stretch . I am not sure San Antonio would won without Steve Kerr.
right on lancet. To those of you who think a good backup guard is not important, how quickly you have forgotten what Sam Cassell did for Houston during our first championship run.
Charlie Ward is not Sam Cassell and he can't shoot like Steve Kerr. He's a nice backup pg who will make good decisions, but he is no difference maker.
I easily know what the minimum vet salary is. I've been reading Coon for a long time now. Thank you anyway, though. Feigen's quote may be wrong, but the math however was NOT wrong. Anyway you cut Ward will get less thah $573k from SA vs $1.5m from Houston. Or about 38.2% of Houston's offer.
