I like Sura alot, i really feel like hes going to break out. AWSOME signing by the ROX. I am veryy happy!
Neither James or Jones would have broken the bank. What did CD save by getting these 2 instead of 1 James or Jones? I'm willing to bet it was nothing or next to nothing. In fact, these 2 may cost us more than either James or Jones would have. A SG that shoots FTs in the 60s is not a good sign. And if it is a cost saving move ,it reminds me of the Oilers when they spent money to put together a good team and decided to go cheap on the Field Goal kicker. IMO, that cost them a ring. I'm not saying that Jones or James would have put us over the top, but I don't understand - or like - passing on either of those 2 to get Sura and Ward.
Kenny Smith led an NBA team to 50+ wins by doing nothing except hitting wide-open 3's. If he could do it, Sura/Ward/Lue are defintely capable. Of course, we didn't win a championship till we got Sam Cassell... but that's another story for another year.
That would make sense... signing Sura becomes a little more practical then. Maybe the Pike for Mutombo becomes reality now.
I love CD(and hope there is a deal in place),but this just plain sucks. Ward is over the hill(average at best during his prime). He brings defensive attitude without substance.Yes,he is decent at running a team for stretches,but.....and Sura is overrated. He is a streaky player/shooter,who often plays out of control. Bobby's defense leaves a lot to be desired too. I wanted consistent role players, not this. What are the contracts like?(shudder) Now,lets go get a banger/defender at the 4,please.
Sura is 6'5 which makes it easier to get into the post (Yao) so now are 2 guards will both be over 6'5 when last year they were both under 6'4. Also did anyone notice Sura averaged over 8 rebounds a game last year when he got over 30 minutes per game. Don't knock Ward either he is old and slow but he wont turn the ball over and he did shoot 41% from 3-pt range last year. I think that a rotation of Sura, Ward, and Lue will work well, hopefully we don't trade any of these 3
Looks like Lue will be our starter for the next season. Sura is a mediocre 3pt shooter, and is much better used coming off the bench when Yao takes his rest. I'm surprised that Ward also signed. Looks like Wilks will pull some phantom injury because he's unlikely to make the 12-man roster now.
Maybe. All of the sudden, we have alot of depth in the backcourt: PG - Lue PG - Ward PG - Wilks SG - McGrady SG - Pike SG/PG - Gaines SG/PG - Sura Maybe CD has a Lue/Pike deal for "X player" in the works.
Well Sura, Ward and Cassell shared the same backcourt in college. How's that for 6 degrees of separation?
I'll wait to see the sizes of their contracts. I sure hope that they are closer to vet minimums than MLE. You can spin it either way. You could say that the Rockets filled some of their holes with the best available, or you could argue that they settled for scrubs (which Suar and Ward are).
That's a weird combo to sign. But if JVG and CD thinks it will work, then let the games begin! At least we got a true PG this time.... desihooper, damn....haven't heard from you in a while. Where you been at? Hit me up w/ a call, private message or email!
Wow, this thread was up for an hour before I realized that Ward and Sura had signed with the Rockets. I thought it was another one of those "signed with another team" type deals. I like Sura as backup SG. Ward I'm not so crazy about.
you can't sign-and-trade players from other teams (only the Hawks can). Pike is the guy slotted to go to the Bulls for Deke
