I heard the news while I was eating lunch at HOOTERS. I looked up from the hooters to read the ticker on ESPN and saw that the Rockets were in the news.
Sura was taken to backup T-Mac and a reserve PG which can also make it possible for Tracy to move to the 3 to help out JJ and Ward can be a steady 1 but unfortunately neither Boki or Gaines are ready for big minutes which will hurt us. I look and see players like Nash/Barbosa,Johnson and Q Rich giving us a very hard time with their speed. Experience is important but our younger players need to develop quickly. Guys like Sura and Ward are useful but only as short term players.
I really late on this but I like the signings. We need guys who play hard and don't need the ball. I do like Sura but I for some reason see him as more of a SG than a point. Ward i hav enever been crazy about but it's JVG's team and if he thinks he will fir then I trust the decision. Good news is competetion is always a good thing. We now have 3 capable (notice I did nopt say good/great) players who can fight for teh PG spot. Whoever fits the best knows they will get plenty of minutes which will be a nice incentive to play well.
i don't think T-Mac is going to play SF for more than 5-10 minutes, if at all. JJ handled the SFs pretty well and i think he's too slow to guard 2s anyway.
When I thought about it, I'm a little pissed that we didn't try to land Antonio Daniels. The guy got the best turnover/assist ratio. It would be nice for once to have a PG that hardly turn over the ball. Ward and Sura for 3 to 4 years?
"We have confidence in anybody out there on the court," McGrady said. "They doubled up and Ty was the open guy. He has ice water in his veins; he's not afraid to take those big shots." I think having someone who TMac has played with AND trusts enough to pass to is important. Here's how Lue faired last year vs. the teams in our new division vs DAL: 2 games, 17.5 ppg, 54% fg, 3.0 apg > 1.0 tpg, 2.0 spg vs SAS: 2 games, 10.5 ppg, 57% fg, 1.5 apg > 0.5 tpg, 0.0 spg vs NOH: 4 games, 12.3 ppg, 57% fg, 4.3 apg > 2.8 tpg, 0.8 spg vs MEM: 2 games, 11.5 ppg, 48% fg, 7.0 apg > 1.5 tpg, 0.5 spg pretty impressive.
Can’t ask for much more than that. I have a feeling not many people here watched Lue play much last season. He’s is not some scrub that you stick at the end of your bench. He’s a solid point guard. Not saying that he’s the permanent solution. But a combo of Lue and Sura is more than adequate for the 1 next season.
41% for the series, and Ivy shot 42% on the season that year. When you consider that Lue didn't stay in front of Iverson as much as he just grabbed and pulled his jersey, it's not overly impressive.
