color me absolutely shocked that we ended up with charlie ward. i can see how this offseason went. CD: derek fisher looks nice. oh damn! 39 million! ok i'll pass. CD: hey jvg, barry only wants 22 over 4 years, sounds pretty good. JVG: are you kidding, he's old and he doesn't play defense, get him outta here. CD: well looks like utah's gonna only offer arroyo 16 million over 4 years. lets beat that. JVG: arroyo? isn't that spanish for overrated by the system? CD: well then hey, lets go for damon jones. looks like he's only getting 5 million over 2 years, a steal. JVG: what? i don't even know who damon jones is. pass! CD: well then i guess all that's left is ward and sura but i mean... JVG: ward you say? why, i hadn't even thought of going that route before, but now that you bring him up, he sounds perfect. he'll make a fine kni...err, i mean rocket. go get him.
HaHa, yeah I remember that, I think it was "My name is...". I can't see Sura forgeting/forgiving that very easily. But it was still worth it (it should be in his contract that we will play it every game when he walks on the court).
first of all sura is an above average nba player, he might not be a superstar, but he sure as hell isn't a scrun. the bulls wanted pike and sura. hinrich must be in sight. too much quality for the bulls to turn down for a team who need to get good fast.
I like these 2 guys, they provide DEPTH & vet leadership! I've seen these 2 guys playing against the ROXS & against other teams truout the years & they are really good, solid players! They just need 2 gel with their new team mates. And I think they want 2 play wit the roxs, unlike those other back-up guards , like D Jones , M. James, D. Fish, & Barry who cares, WHO didn't want 2 be wit the ROXS 4 whatever reasons & signed wit other teams. $ $$$!
you do realize that it takes TWO side agreeing to make a deal work. The Rox offered Barry - he declined and went to the Spurs they were outbid for Fisher and we don't know what happened with Damon Jones (but the fact that we cut him several years back I am sure didn't help) you can't FORCE guys to sign here - stop being so over-critical
Don't know much about Sura. Charlie Ward is a good back-up point guard and can start at times, sort of like a Mark Jackson. The Rockets are starting to look more like a team. Now just get a back-up center and I'll be happy with the off season.
Why don't we re-sign Mark Jackson instead of charlie Ward? This is stupid... Hell give Calvin Murphy a shot
Oh, brother. Go out of town a couple of days and look who we get for the point! Ward and Sura. With three year contracts. Ouch. I can't believe we signed Ward for 3 years. Sura, sure, but I'm not excited about it. Not a bit. So what's going down with the TE? Maybe we'll still end up getting another point with a backup 5. Man, I hope so. Sura is a good pickup, but not who I want starting at the point. And Ward? For the minimum, but not for a dime more. Argh.
I'm a lil frustrated by the Ward signing in all honesty. The guy has lost several steps since his best days in NY and will be a defensive liability against PGs that can penetrate. Sura on the other hand, were he here last year, he might have helped Cat and Franchise shave a few minutes off their MPG, which in my opinion was the main reason for so many 4th quarter collapses last year. Sura got ups, and is a serious baller, I dont know to much about his defense, but he can create his own shot and plays a very strong 6'5". If it hasn't already been said, he could be this year's Jim Jackson signing.
I'd have preferred a 2 year contract on Ward but I'm not all that bothered by it being a 3 year deal. Lue's contract expires after this season so we'll have the option to let him go and pursue a better quality point guard. Ward should be able to manage being our second or third string point guard for the remainder of his contract then.
Ward might have a team option on the third year, I'm crossing my fingers on that. Sura is a good pick up come to think of it. Talent wise Sura is a poor poor man's Francis, but his size, defense and fastbreaking makes up for it so he is more like a poor man's Francis.
I can't imagine that Ward has a guaranteed 3 year deal. That last year must be an option or is only partially guaranteed.
its not like these contract are Mo Taylor-esque crippling agreements. 3 years 8-9 million - teams can move those kinds of players any day of the week weren't we considering trading for a PG that makes about 2-3 million and is considered to be one of the biggest NBA draft busts ? (that would be Daniels - who was picked 4th, over our own T-mac)
Sorry but I'm a long time Rocket fan living in San Antonio and the Spurs signed Charlie Ward supposedly as a backup PG and he sucked. Bad move by the Rockets. You'll see.....
