BTW, what hits has Bush requested? Wasn't Uday head of the Republican Guard; that makes him an enemy for sure.

    How is this war illegal?

Yeah, I missed that too. I read once where seemingly a decision had been made but I saw no announcement of destination.

    Crawford, Texas? :D

I don't have a specific example, rimbaud, and you're mostly one of my favorite posters. You just show up every once in a while with a smart alecky comment which seems dismissive and hence superior, but maybe that's a case of me not getting you sometimes. Most of the time, I think you're swell.

MacB: Not moving anywhere specific right away. Heading towards NC first to hang out with a new love interest for a little while. After that I go to Atlanta to direct a play. I'll figure out my next stop from the road. Any cool theaters in Toronto I should talk to about a show?

giddy: We've been through the illegal war thing before. Let's not do it all over again.

I let about half of Jorge's posts that are specifically aimed at me go by, but you guys are right that I (and we) still respond to them far too often -- certainly way more than they merit. And, in that way, he'd be right to claim victory. Certainly not on the merits of any of his arguments, which are strictly grade school, but on that other point you guys are probably right. It's a pretty small victory though. TroyBaros was a champ at that stuff too.

bj, it's cool that you're playing it by ear like that. Good luck on your voyage.

btw, I think you and macbeth do take rimbaud too seriously. I think he plays the postmodernist bit brilliantly (there's a reason why there's a postmodernist movement... at least I have those moods quite a bit). Add in the detached dismissive bit, and you end up w/ someone that gets more done than either of us.

We could all learn a lot from rimbaud.

sjc, I was hoping that's where you were going in your point about bj and macbeth "being destroyed". I have yet to see tj destroy anyone (well, I put him on ignore mos. ago so I don't really see any of his threads anymore (sorry tj you were the choice for testing the ignore functionality and how it affects the display of the board.... ie, threads that you start still show up on the thread list; i'll change that one day I'm sure)).

    Mac,

I guess you don't "get" me in general, because that was not what I thought I was explaining previously.

    Batman,

Smart alecky, sure. Again, though, from stupididty, not superiority. Regardless, did my clarification help (make sense) any?

On a side note, my "meeting" you consisted essentially of me saying "hi" and not much else, since it was so brief. How, from that, can you think that I am nice (other than you just trying to be nice by saying that I am nice...which would indeed be nice)? Not that I am really an ass or anything...just wondering. :)

editII: what the hell, heb...now you are saying nice things about me? I thought only you and your tangible rocks mattered?

Achebe: Thanks for the well wishes. And I actually don't take rimbaud too seriously, except when he posts on things he obviously knows a great deal about which I enjoy quite a lot. I generally enjoy the smart alecky stuff as well..

rimbaud: Your clarification made perfect sense. I don't believe you're stupid for a minute. And yeah, we only said hi, but you seemed friendly. I was hoping you'd stick around for a beer. But yeah too, I was mostly being nice.

Smeg owns rimmy. Can somebody maked an owned image w/ rimbaud and Smeggy?

rimbaud, I thought you knew me better than that. I was just using you as a vehicle to help make fun of JV (assuming that he knew I respect you he wouldn't take my posts so seriously). I thought that you may have taken that wrong. :(

Incidentally, this has turned into a "getting to know you" thread b/c of a dork like TJ. TJ wins again. HAHA.

    rimmy eats his boogers.

T_J is actually one of the people on the board I would like to meet very much. I think he is very smart and he seems to be a nice guy.

That was an outstandig one-liner owning by smeg, indeed. However, they would need an image of me in order to do that. As it stands now, a photoshopper would have to construct something taken from eye-witness accounts of the four people on this board who have seen me.

I didn't take it wrong. You took what I just wrote wrong.

Batman - had obligations that night so couldn't. If you want that beer can come sometime before you leave.

Hate to return to the topic rather than whether Jorge mainly insults and adds little to the debate (true) or whether Rimmy for whatever reason displays a dismissive intellectual arrogance toward political threads and contributes little to them. (true).

I do think we can all agree stopping real terrorism in the US is a good thing. However, surprisingly, it appears that the big terrorist bust may have been much a do about little and overplayed. Sort of like the laterst code purple or whatever.

    Less Than Meets the Eye?
U.S. Government Sting Operation Criticized as Setup

    By Brian Ross

Aug. 13— Administration officials are leaving out key facts and exaggerating the significance of the alleged plot to smuggle a shoulder-launched missile into the United States, law enforcement officials told ABCNEWS. They say there's a lot less than meets the eye.

The accused ringleader, British national Hemant Lakhani, appeared today in federal court in Newark, N.J., and was ordered held without bond on charges of attempting to provide material support and material resources to terrorists and acting as an arms broker without a license.

Outside the courtroom, U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie called Lakhani an ally of terrorists who want to kill Americans.

"He, on many occasions, in recorded conversations, referred to Americans as 'bastards' [and] Osama bin Laden as a hero," said Christie.

But what he did not say was just how much of the alleged missile plot was a government setup from start to finish.

For example, Lakhani had no contacts in Russia to buy the missiles before the sting and had no known criminal record for arms dealing, officials told ABCNEWS.

"Here we have a sting operation on some kind of small operator … who's bought one weapon when actually, on the gray and black market, hundreds of such weapons charge hands," said military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer.

Court documents show much of the case is based on the government's key cooperating witness, an informant seeking lenient treatment on federal drug charges, officials told ABCNEWS. He was the first person who led the government to Lakhani.

    ‘He Might Say Anything’

The missile shipped into the New York area last month was not a real missile — just a mockup — also arranged entirely by the government. The government also arranged the meetings at a New Jersey hotel and elsewhere, where Lakhani allegedly told undercover agents posing as al Qaeda terrorists about his support of bin Laden.

"One would have to ask yourself, would this have occurred at all without the government?" said Gerald Lefcourt, a criminal defense attorney.

In London today, Lakhani's neighbors described him as a quiet man who worked in the garment industry and had faced serious financial problems.

"I would have hoped the United States is thwarting real terrorism and not something manufactured because here all they're doing is stopping something they created," said Lefcourt.

Government officials said the case will show that Lakhani went along with the scheme willingly and was not entrapped. But the question remains whether any of this would have happened if the government had not set it up.

I think it's worth noting that this whole discussion of each others' personalities (BBS and otherwise) began because texxx and Jorge were so furious about my post from yesterday. I woke up this 'morning' around noon to find two pages (at least) worth of debate based on my first post in the thread. By the logic expressed previously re: Jorge controlling debates or whatever I think I've got to grab that crown off him, in this thread at least.

rimbaud: I'd love to. heypartner and Refman have talked about a beer too. I'll start a thread in the Hangout soon to invite anyone else who wants to try and make it out.

ROTFL Mrs. Jb. You and Smeggy will have to own rimmy together in the image. If we can't dig up that old photo of you, an image of Marcia Brady will have to suffice

Jeff can be in the background. If we can't find his photo, I say we substitute a photo of Silent Bob.

If Mrs. JB looks like Marcia Brady she can HAVE my damn tiara. And all she's gotta do is let me smell her hair.
