Very interesting. I agree with you on some level but I'll have to disagree with you on Butler. I think he is a good player just lacking another few inches. About Ming blocking Carter and Mourning, what do expect given that Ming is 7'5 with a wingspan that allows you to almost touch the rim flat footed you are going to able to block a lot of shots. Look at Shawn Bradley for example, he is even able to get a piece of Shaq's shot.

As for winning championships, the last few champions did have a significant presence standing in the middle, so maybe Ming is a piece to solving the rockets problem. We will just have to wait and see what happens next season.

They traded Jabbar for garbage actually. After trading Jabbar it them yrs to recover. They made deals with Seattle and the clipps along with being sorry and getting high picks. The had a lineup in 82, 7 yrs after trading jabbar of :

Terry Cummings via trade with Clipps
    Jack Sikma via trade seattle
    Paul Mokeski
    Ricky Moncreif via draft
    Ricky Pierce

Later they added Paul Pressey, Brad Lohaus and some other guys. Its true they were contenders but were always beaten by Philly and Boston in the east.

Caron Butler defends better, and has a better inside game than Robinson. They're really not that similar, sfe for the oh, so remarkable fact that both have good jump shots and play the 3. Jeez, should we avoid anyone with those particualr skills?

All of this "oh, if we get this guy, we'll be like team X..." is a load of crap. Players are too unique, especially the stars, to simply look at guys with somewhat similar skills, and believe they're identical. Besides, , add a single good post player to Milwaukee, and they're title contenders.

And, hell, is there anything so wrong with being Milwaukee? Their problems don't come from a lack of talent, but the fact that Sam Cassell is a bit crazy, George Karl can't control his temper, and none of them play any defense... but they've still managed to reach the conference finals. Right now, that sounds like heaven to me. And last I checked, they didn't look hopeless for next year.

If we trade down, I'd imagine Butler will be our prime target. And I hope so, too.

You forget Milwaukee plays in the east and we play in the west. Milwaukee would not have it in the playoffs last year and definitely not this year if the were in the west. You have to have an inside presence or your not going anywhere in this conference. Lets look at Dallas, if they were in the east they would have been the #1 seed and would have swept everyone during the playoffs. However, they're only the 4th best team in the West.

Did I miss something? Did everyone except for me get the CBA League Pass this year? I watched a ton of Caron Butler and the man is a freakin' stud. Unfortunately, I didn't see Didley of Mr. Ming.

Who actually saw this guy play? Who on this board can say this guy really has game?

Kingcheetah:To much bamboo - C. Butler would make a great #1 - proven, no gov/ team baggage, tough attitude (the Rockets need a thug- with heart) cheaper than Ming and he is here year round. We'll see what happens...
    _______________________________________________

Proven: Butler is proven in the college, whereas many players tore up the NCAA underachieve in the NBA. Kenyon Martin the No.1 pick kicked the college player's ass and he is now just a solid player. The problem of the NCAA players is that they rely on their athleticism instead of fundamental skills to roam in the college, and try to fix the holes in their games later on as a pro, which is not the case of Yao Ming, as he is unanimously agreed as FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND. Yao Ming is more proven than Butler in that aspect.

Gov/team baggage: this is not an issue as the Rockets won't pick Yao had this problem is not sovled. On the other hand, these baggage might be beneficial to Yao's game. When the majority of your salary is to be taken away by the old team and government, the way to make money is to become stars and sign endorsement deals. Great motivation for Yao!

Tough attitude: Antonio Mcdyess and Alonzo Mourning praised Yao after being matched up with him in the Olypics. Would they do that if Yao was soft?

I am not against taking Butler if Yao slips out of the picture for whatever reason, but a very likely scenerio would be the Rockets getting stuck in mediocrity for years to come. Maybe the comparison with G. Robinson is not the best one, how about Shawn Marion? Do you think Butler will be as good as Shawn Marion, while being shorter and less athletic? What prevents the Rockets from being the next Suns, if Griffin does not develope into a strong post presence?

Writhe: I have seen Yao Ming play on TV for several times, he is everything what the majority of scouts said about him.
