Oh and Wang Zhi Zhi sucks. Yao was a boy when he was getting dominated. Now he's a man, and Wang is a disloyal stiff.
I think wnes' point was that on some of the scoreboards in media still shows him as Ming, where they show everyone else with their surnames. Obviously, they confused Yao Ming's last name with his first name. After 3.5 years, that is quite strange though. Now, can we move back to Wang Zhizhi?

Maybe just coincidental or maybe you've heard something, but you asked at a rather 'accurate' time, because one of the hottest discussion topics during the past month or so in one of the chinese biggest hoops board is the supposed 'Return of Wang Zhizhi' in the next couple of weeks. Now there are all just rumors but China is making a conscious effort to 'forgive athletes who've made mistakes' in their quest to the Beijing olympics in 2008. Reportedly (and it's been confirmed) one of chinese' top basketball people had come over to the US and had direct conversation with Wang 3, 4 times. Supposedly Wang has packed his bag and ready to return to his motherland. We'll find out in a few weeks, maybe.

I understood from my chinese brothers that the correct and polite way is to call him Yao Ming, not by any single name.
Wang is a classic case of a guy that doesn't really like to play basketball that much, and doesn't work hard on his game. He's never gotten into top shape, and didn't add any skills besides shooting. He doesn't hustle or like to do the dirty work down low (rebounding, defending etc). Still, I'm surprised he's not on a bench somewhere. Big guys like him can usually at least get a job as practice fodder, and his shooting might come in handy in certain matchups.
Let's bring this thread back on track. I've always wondered what happned to Wang. Is he just out of basketball? In the D-league somewhere? Playing in Europe? Or what?
LOL, funny post. Anyway, I don't think it's fair to compare the two guys. Yao has been groomed by the Rockets organization to become a superstar from day 1 and given every single chance to succeed. The same thing cannot be said of Wang.
Wang had plenty of chances to succeed. If he would get into shape, hustle and work on his game, he wouldn't have been a superstar, but he surely would have been a solid NBA pro. He's like any number of guys who are somewhat talented but not talented enough to make up for a subpar work ethic.
well what can you say about 7-1 guy whose NBA career-high is 7 rebounds?!? the irony is that in his early days he wasn't all about jacking up shots from outside... he eventually 'developed' that mentality as he got older. i still remember the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta when 18 year old ZhiZhi was touted as the one to watch in the years to come. at least he'll be remembered as the 1st Chinese to play in the league.

i think the Miami Heat waved him... but all he did for them was warm the bench..... cuz he barely got any playing time... and now he cant do sh** against YAO!... lol
o yea wang zhizhi is head back to china in the middle of april, and he will play for yao's old team, shanghai sharks, if everything works out.
