Don't disrespect pryuen for what Wang Meng says. Every time I see his name I doubt the validity of the article, but not the translation that pryuen gives to us from it.

Just take it with a grain of salt, like pretty much anything written by Lopez in the Chron. :)

if you were a center assigned to guard yao, would you rather guard him at the high post or in the low post?

I hope the answer will become "NEITHER" by the end of next season.

what about jabbar...were laker fans hollering for him to play at the high post? its so simple but the unknowing want a 7'6 dominant low post player to move to the high post for what exact reason...to shoot jump shots...wow

I"d say 65% low post, 35% high post.

    Why?

1> Yao has fatigue problems. Playing less low post > energy in 4th quarter.
2> Yao has injury problems. see above.
3> Yao is a good mid range shooter (90% FT). He can hit the midrange jumpshot better than T-Mac. Better than Alston. Better than most guards.
4> Use Yao in the low post at end of Game. Put away the game using his dominance.

    Don't get me wrong.

Tom Thibedeau did an A++ job on Yao Ming. A++. He should still be the coach for Yao Ming.

JVG did overall an A- job for the Rockets, and B+ job on Yao.

    id like more of a

    75% to 25%
    or
    70% to 30%

just enough to mix up the defender...

id much rather Yao to have a mindset of going at the basket... when his shot isnt falling though....

or foul out in doing so... rather than miss fade aways...

    Hmm..is that sarcastic reply?

The reason I rate Tom A++ and JVG A-/B++ is because nobody can ignore the vast improvements Yao made from year 1 to year 5. Yao went from a project to a legitimate #1 center in the NBA.

And Tom was Yao's personal coach and therefore deserves the full credit. He worked alongside Yao, tirelessly watching videos, etc. He was A++.

I didn't understand why Tom was not re-hired. If I was Les, I would re-hire Tom just because Yao loved Tom as his coach. I am 100% sure Yao wanted Tom to return. And a good thing was going, so why break it?

Now, if it was politics that caused Tom to get released, well that sucks. If it was CD's fault, then CD deserves that blame.

JVG on the other hand, his faults have been exposed as a head coach. Inflexibility being #1 fault. You can't be so rigid in a sport like baseketball. NBA is a lot like NFL. You need to adjust at half time, like the great NFL coaches do. Bill Parcells would do that all the time.

JVG was too rigid, too inflexible. And that was why he needed to be fired. He is still a very good coach, but we definitely needed changes.

Great article! I can't wait to see Yao Ming explore his talent on a different time zone in which i think Yao can utilize his gifted talent to the next level. :)

He was really accurate to 20 feet with his sky hook. Kareem from outside the paint was much, much better than Yao has shown so far.

20 feet?!? So he was putting up that sky hook from right next to the three-point line? BWAHAHAHA!! :D :D

Dude, I don't think you were watching the same Jabbar I was watching. Kareem was deadly from 10 feet in and dangerous from 15 feet or so. Outside of that, he was touch and go.

While NOBODY has ever had as lethal a shot as Kareem's sky hook, Yao already has a better touch from beyond 15 feet. With a system that can take advantage of it, that can cause all sorts of problems for the opposing defense.

although i hope yao utilizes different parts of his game, especially his mid-range shot, i hope his game doesn't change too much and he still spends most of his time inside.
