I don't know what kinds of Wal Marts you people are going to, but I've never had a cleanliness problem with mine. Define "dirty". It's not like there is trash lying around on the floor or bugs everywhere.

To me, a store is only as messy as the people that shop there. Target caters to a slightly higher class of people. They build their stores in nicer neighborhoods, and their higher prices reflect that. Wal Mart caters to a more general population than Target, so obviously they have more poor people shop there that are used to messier living conditions, so they leave things a little less tidy than Target. To call Wal Mart "dirty" though is stretching it. I don't know, maybe I'm just too accustomed to white trash. :D

Of course, whenever I go into a Target, nobody is ever there, so there aren't any actual people to mess the store up in the first place...

A-Train, not all Wal Marts are created equal. A few are quite sloppy in some areas of the store. Others are very clean. Inconsistency is one of Wal Mart's problems right now.

I cannot stand Wal-mart, mostly due to the fact that they have so much crammed in there and so many people it's almost impossible to get through an aisle without it being an obstacle course.

The prices are great...but I only go there if I absolutely need something and don't care for the quality of it. And don't ever go looking for help from an employee other than trying to find something.

Target is cleaner and more organized but its selection is not as big as Walmart and its prices are higher. I prefer Walmart..

I worked at Wallly World 4-5 years ago for a few months. Brand new store in a decent town. And it was and still is CLEAN. Very solidly run store, much better than the Target across the street. No not all are created equal but I'd have to agree with it depending on the area and the kind of people they're trying to cater to. (A LOT of women went there, kinda miss that place sometimes.. But it was the devil) Wal-Mart for cheaper prices.

Target is much cleaner and nicer looking of them all. Maybe its the design but I don't recall ever being in many dirty looking Targets. I think it helps that its not open 24 hours like Wal-Mart usually is. (Could be why a few more Wal-Marts are nicer looking here in Cali cuz they are NOT open 24 hours over here. And no true Supercenters here either). Target, I guess..doesnt try to be as 'diverse' in their hiring as Wal-Mart. More in lines of "normal" people working there...You can feel it, that air of "Gosh, Wal-Mart. I will NOT go there. Ugh." from the shoppers there. Which I don't always like but Wal-Mart is the devil...

There's a K-Mart here 2 lights away from me. Its taken on the look of a defeated chain unfortunately. Like they knew long ago they couldnt compete so they're just going through the motions with what they have...Dingy, selection not as big as the others. Which sucks cuz I loved K-Mart way back in the day. Clothes might be there with Wal-Mart and lines arent as long which is a plus...I still seem to pass it for the other stores even though its so close to me.

Advantage: Wal-Mart. Only cuz they FINALLY made one near me 24 hours.

    I find that...

Wal Mart has the lowest prices in general, and a better selection of electronics, but the stores are usually pretty trashy.

Target has competitive prices but not quite as low as Wal Mart in general, the clothing section is ten times better, and the stores are generally pretty darn clean.

So, where I go is truly determined by what I'm looking for. Clothes is Target. Electronics is Wal Mart. Groceries is Wal Mart. If I just feel like browsing, it's Target, because it's a nicer place for relaxed shopping.

I think the chicks that work at Target are hotter.

The "chicks" that work at Wal-Mart...Well...

Wal Mart is so damn crowded. Especially on the weekends and afternoons, so I avoid it like the plague... or homework.

The Wal-Mart that I patronize is on 290 and tidwell, and they are renovating, and that place sucks monkey ass balls. It used to be a regular walmart with just stuff, but theyre expanding it to a SUPER Wal-Mart.

There's a Target down the road on 290 and Hollister, and guess what? They're renovating too. They're turning it into a SUPER Target!

    Way to go.

The only other Wal-Marts I go to are the one on Cutten and Fm 1960, and Eldridge and FM 1960, and the one in the south east side of town on Rowlett? and 45 S near that dealership.

The Wal-Marts on FM 1960 are a little better than the one on 290.

I only go to that Target on 290, and the Target inside Memorial City Mall.

Wal-Mart is cheaper, but Target is just more convenient... sometimes.

    I just borrow it sometimes.

I think there's a Wal-Mart on Fairmont and the Beltway that I might patronize.

Walmart Supercenters are pure greatness. sure walmart is evil, but i love big, evil corporations like microsoft, coca-cola, nike, etc. the kind of business that could have you killed if they wanted to, just for fun. the kind that will use any sleazy (even if legal) business practice they can to make a buck. you gotta respect that. so that's probably one reason i like walmart. then add on the fact that they basically have everything in the world, it's all cheap, and they're open 24 hours, and it's perfect. now if you want they type of stuff where quality matters, yeah you don't go there. but like the "underwear is underwear" post earlier from Rainman, tons of stuff is the same no matter where you go so you might as well get it cheap. now that they have grocery stores, the only thing that keeps me away is distance.

at my last apartment, it was about 1 block to HEB (which is also great with a huge selection) and 8 miles to walmart. now at this apartment it's about 2 miles to Kroger (i wish it was as big as the Kroger by my parents house) and 8 or 10 miles to a walmart supercenter. so i only get food from there if i'm there for something else.

target's seem pretty good but i hardly go there and they're more expensive.

kmart. man, i can't even remember the last time i was in a kmart. i don't understand how they aren't just closed. i mean i remember them from when i was a kid so seeing them succeed would be cool, but they have no chance and have to be losing money. why not just give up.

A_3PO, I TOTALLY agree. The Wal-Mart experience is a very store-specific thing. In Pittsburgh, the closest Wal-Mart to me was not too bad, but the lines were always HUGE, and it wasn't really all that great. As a result, I went to Target much more often. But they opened a brand new Wal-Mart that was about the same distance away, and I went there to pick up Super Bowl stuff. It is the BEST Wal-Mart I've ever been to. It always had everything I wanted, was clean, well-organized, nice, easy to get in/out, lots of checkouts, everything. It was always a great experience.

Overall, I prefer Target, but a REALLY GOOD Wal-Mart is debatably better than a great Target.

The Wal-Marts in my area are significantly better than the Targets. In both price and selection. Foot traffic is a wash, unfortunately.

the wal mart near me gets a lot of traffic but so does the target. I think target actually competes pretty well on price.

k-mart just couldn't compete in houston once wal-mart started to make their presence felt. they couldn't compete on price and the stores weren't any nicer. so much for the blue light special
