Couldn't have said it better myself. In 1999 I was working at Best Buy and one of my coworkers was also a sheriff who worked there to get discounts and stuff. A kid was suspected of stealing and our theft department told him about it. He went outside after him and escorted him back into the store and into our meeting room by the arm.

About 30 minutes later they found nothing on the kid when his dad came and needless to say they caused a huge scene and the guy was fired on the spot for doing something our theft department and management told him to do. It was a crappy spot for him to be in.

The guys ended up suing the store and working out a deal where they got anything they wanted from best buy at cost thanks to this incident. I remember the guy always coming in and buying stuff almost every weekend.

It's better just not to care and not get involved because you will end up being the scape goat. ALWAYS.

What is wrong with the Wal*Mart employee? The kid stopped and held the bag out to show him he didn't steal anything. The employee starts getting all aggressive. Slowly, our "rights" are being taken away.

**** yeah, nothing worse than a line to leave.

Looks like the old man grabbed the kid first and shoved him through the security sensor.

That's pretty racist - I'm a white female and am always asked to show my receipt at Walmart, as do scores of other white people standing in front of or behind me.

I didn't see exactly what happened but the other day at a Wal-Mart I was getting some Tylenol and I walked over to electronics not knowing they close at 11. There was a group of people there and I was thinking "is there something being released at midnight? What's going on?" But it was Saturday night so of course nothing was coming out.

Anyways, I guess the employee in electronics was new because she was like listening to people who were asking her to grab stuff for her "ya'll got any PS3 controllers?" An older employee came up and said very loudly "ELECTRONICS IS CLOSED!"

So I started walking away when I heard one guy say something like "I just wanna get my stuff I asked for" and then there was a commotion and I saw the older Wal-Mart guy falling to the ground grappling with the "I just want my stuff" guy. The Wal-Mart guy said something like "you don't touch me" or "you don't touch her" I can only assume he tried to grab whatever stuff he had asked the inexperienced employee for and the older employee took him down with a choke hold.

So then the guy getting choked started yelling about how his neck was broken he was going to sue calling for help and for a manager etc. If you have ever been to a store with 2 entrances late at night, you know they close one, 3 police were parked at the closed entrance when I arrived, I should have known this place had potential for craziness.

I'm kind of disappointed in myself for not alerting police or a manager and just paying for my stuff and leaving but I felt like both those guys deserved each other at that moment and didn't really care what happened to either of them.

In Houston, they either check everybody's receipt or let everybody go.

Several years ago, I moved to a predominantly white town in Vermont. The greeter was letting everybody go out the door without checking their receipt.

I(asian) walked out the door with my black girlfriend and get stopped immediately. I had a small bag with only 2 items. The old white lady checked all my items carefully, while ignoring everybody else. After she was done, she kept letting everybody else walk out the door.

People were walking out the door with shopping carts with many more items than me, but Walmart thinks I stole something. It must be something about the way I look. Hmm......

You notice how nobody asks for ID when using credit or debit cards? I was relieved when I was at Frys and they asked for ID even though I had stupidly signed my current card and keep forgetting to wipe it and write Check ID on the back. But the guy ringing me up said he hated doing it because people get upset about getting asked and he told me about a hispanic family that accused him of thinking they were illegal immigrants or something.

I'm hispanic too and I didn't think anything of it, I'm just glad I know that if I ever dropped my card at Frys that nobody could buy a PS3 and some games before I even have a chance to cancel the card.

If you wipe the card and write check id, I am pretty sure it is invalid.

I like going to Fry's/Best Buy and when that person asks for my receipt, I say no thanks and walk right off.

Thanks for the tip man; screw you Cost-Co and Sam's, no way I'm showing you my receipt ever again. With those extra 10 seconds just think of all the stuff I can get done now.

Actually, it's against Visa & MasterCard's merchant policy to ask for ID when making a transaction.. A card user could actually report the store for making you show your ID.. I understand it, but I still write "Please ask for ID" on the back of all my cards..

This all could have been prevented if the guy just showed the geezer the receipt. 5 seconds max.

You may say he didn't have to. Sure, the charges may be dropped. But his name is all over the news and he was arrested. Nothing is going to change that. Could he sue Wal Mart? Maybe.
