Dampier? You just lost any credibility you just had. If you are a Mavs fan atleast be reasonable, or hopefully you are just joking.

The whole pistons locker room would fall to the floor laughing if Flip ever told Ben to make sure to guard Dampier and not focus on anything else.

If Wallace had a higher scoring average with the same defensive stats he wouldn't win the award.

Don't yall know that Dampier is the second best center in the league behind Shaq?

He said he will even put Dampier as the MDC right now. I know it's not a smiley, but damn, it should be enough to show people its sarcasm.

should we even play the season next year or should we just giv the MVP to nash and DPOY to big ben right now? i certainly don't need to see them prove it, it's theirs.

exactly. being a defense only player for some reason gives you more credit for your defense. it should give you less since you don't have to use any energy scoring.

Found this quote from Joe Dumars quite insulting:

I guess he never saw Hakeem picking the pockets of point guards from outside the three point line?

Comparing Wallace to Olajuwon and Mutombo is ridiculous. Wallace is 6'7, he better be able to guard smaller players. What he can't do is play dominating man on man defense against centers. Opposing centers shot 48% against Wallace, as opposed to 45% against Yao and 46% against Dampier. Imagine if he was playing for Orlando, at the most he would have won 2 DPOY's instead of 4.

    Mr. Dumars,

Talk to me when Ben Wallace cracks the top 10 list of All Time Steals leaders. Hakeem is at #9 currently. I know you are trying to be a homer but try not to look silly.

He is actually at #7. But you're right, Dumars has taken Homerism to a new level-i wonder who he'd pick out of the two to man the middle for the pistons?

Yeah, the NBA likes to help some guys out in that regard. He was listed as 6'7 at the NBA Draft camp.

He does have a 7'2 wingspan though.

    LOL

What point guard has Ben Wallace ever guarded? What shooting guard has he ever guarded? What small forward has he ever guarded? More importantly, why as a coach, would you want your center guarding 1's, 2's and 3's?!?!

Skill-wise, Wallace is a slow and uncoordinated big man that hustles and plays with a ton of heart. Now, how that translates into him being able to guard players twice as quick as him.....well, you got me. True, he's a hell of a defender but i've seen the guy play a lot and i've never seen him guard a PG/SG/SF.

He guards perimeter players a lot, just recently he guarded Lebron in the second half of game 1, Lebron didn't score in the second half. But yeah, he doesn't compare Russell, Wilt, Dream, or Dikembe, he's just better than everyone out there today.

If people are outraged about this award, wait until he, once again, is higher than Yao on the all-nba teams.

On top of everything, he is not even that great of a man-on-man defender. He is a great weak side defender that can play great help D, pick a few balls, and then come out of nowhere to slap that crap away. Rasheed is the better one-on-one defender. This guy is just getting way too much hype.

He better be thanking god every night that he is not playing 10 or 15 years ago, and that Shaq and Yao are the only centers in the game that are even close to dominating like the centers of the last decade.

Are you sure? I realize that the NBA height thing is all messed up, but I've seen Ben in person, and I swear he's definitely more than just a few inches taller than me.
