I noticed a lot of people in the Galleria just stand still on the escalators. Why don't they just move to the right so people can go by? What do you do?
I guess I've never been on an escalator wide enough for people to pass because I stand (that's the point of an escalator) and nobody has ever tried to pass me.
Seriously, where are you that you are running up an escalator? I just stand there, take the stairs if you wanna run.
I noticed in Japan that everyone stands to the right to allow people to walk and pass on the left on the escalator. They did the same thing on a moving walkway. I thought it was very polite and efficient so I'm gonna do the same here even if nobody else does it.
If it's a short escalator like at the mall, I'll stand. But if it is a longer escalator like at the airport or train station I'll walk. Sometimes people don't understand that concept of not standing still on the left side so I'll purposely walk into them. If there is a stairs I'll usually take that, but at many places nowadays they only have escalator.
I'll make an exception that Japanese people walk left and stand right all the time because their all pretty slim and fit but most Texans are overweight and very big.
About 23. I run marathons and could probably beat you in a footrace. I'm not a sedentary individual. But the point of escalators is that you can get to the next floor without expending energy. I get if people want to get up faster. I'm a fast walker and am impatient in my car, but I never find myself in such a hurry that I need to add stair climbing to my escalator routine. I just let them do their job.
+1 walk left. stand right. I go up and down one of the longest escalators in the western hemisphere every day on my work commute. anybody caught daydreaming and blocking the path gets pretty much bowled over.
Because they're ****ING IDIOTS that's why. Walk on the down escalator unless you have luggage, or are physically unable. It's OK to stand on the up escalator, but at all all times GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!
