I wouldn't be opposed to unloading him outright, but I'm actually trying to look at it from a business standpoint. Him announcing he's out for the season the day before the trade deadline pretty much sealed the fact that he only has his own best interests in mind. He took all our negotiating leverage away. He screwed the team and he screwed them bad. I cannot believe he sabotaged the team's chances to add a good player to save his own sorry ass from possibly being traded. Well I hope to hell we trade him to the ****tiest team in the league, and he has to end his career in humiliating fashion.
He's owed around $45 million this year and next, GUARANTEED. I'd like to hear that conversation between Morey and Les where DM tries to talk the benefit of waiving a guy but be still on the hook to pay him the above amount.
We're paying him to only play 1/4 of the games now, what's scaling his minutes back even more going to hurt?
Throw the bum out. The only way he should be allowed back into the Toyota Center is to clean the toilets.
So what is the benefit of cutting Tmac ...if you are right? We save a roster spot? ...but we can't fill that spot anyway because we're right at the LuxTax. So cutting him would gaurentee we get nothing. Keeping him gets us: 1.) Maybe he comes back healthy and better than ever. 2.) Mabye we can trade him before the deadline next season. 3.) If he can't play next year, maybe we get an Injury exception. I see absolutely no benefit to cutting him. You only cut low wage guys to save a roster spot so you can resign another low wage guy. But you don't cut high-wage guys cause it's not like you'll be able to resign anybody other than at the vet minimum.
Yeah, anyway you look at it... cutting him outright would be a terrible decision. An act of passion, not an act of good business.
there is no benefit, this is just a typical knee jerk reaction to this type of thing. to hate mcgrady so bad (and trust me, i'm no longer a supporter of his) to say that his contract has no value is just flat-out hysterics. if an underachieving team feels they can unload some decent players who have undesirable contracts in order to free up or save money, they will jump on that chance in a heartbeat.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. Why take on somebody else's trash when we can just use the money in 2010 ourselves?
How many big free agent signings have the Rockets made in the past 20 years? I doubt we'll be in any position to get any of the "big 4" available in 2010. Not with so many teams already game-planning so hard.
Yes you're super "serial" alright...serially r****ded lol. There is no benefit whatsoever from waiving Tmac, and you essentially give up his value as an expiring contract next year. What happens if Tmac comes back strong in his contract year and signs with a contender for the minimum since we're taking his salary anyway? At minimum wage, even a 40% Tmac is a steal. We waive Tmac and Daryl Morey will be the laughingstock of the whole league
