That is my preference(Zaza) but if we can't get one,I'm in favor of using part of of it,around 2-2.5 M to re-sign Von. Von doesn't deserve as much as Landry but I do realize that he might end up with 3M because of the market and that would be ok, unless we get Matt Barnes for 3-3.5M who I feel is somewhat better than Von.
I think his poor performance against LA could be a blessing in disguise. It could have turned some GMs around the league off of Wafer and that means we could sign him for a little less money. I like what he brings, but he's not irreplaceable and I dont see him ever becoming a starter in the NBA. His decision making and his defense are too poor.
I didn't know Wafer wanted to be back. I think can get more money and PT playing for a bad team. I think he can get equal money and More PT playing for a bad team. We'll see, I would like to have him back but I wouldn't blame him if he goes somewhere else for a bigger role.
Wafer has some good games but I think not many teams will give him good contract. NBA is full of this type of players... I guess rockets will only sign him near the end of summer with a reasonable contract. ^^
This post is complete trash. Let's just take a bunch of random players and put them on a fictional team that plays a completely different style and call it the Rockets since 3 of the 6 play for the Rockets in real life....completely pointless exercise. I'm not ever sure why you would think that would be a particularly dangerous team. Seems like a mish mash of parts that don't quite fit. With the amount of steals Paul creates and his superior decision making it seems like you would do him a great disservice to surround him with guys not suitable for an uptempo style. ...and I happen to think the Rockets aren't a particularly limited team the way they are put together. They just become more limited with injuries at various points to Yao, Tmac, Artest, Battier, Landry, Deke, etc. Still though, Houston is probably the most prepared team to handle those injuries. Imagine what the expectations of what people consider a "deep" team like the Lakers would be if Bryant, Bynum, Ariza, Odom, Gasol, and Walton all had missed big chunks of playing time in the season. This fact this Houston team stayed competitive for so long despite key injuries shows just how flexible they are.
i hope wafer realizes that if he comes back next year, he will get even less mins with tmac hogging the minutes (assuming hes healthy).
4 years, $37 million for Ron Artest? Ain't gonna happen. No way in the world. If another team is crazy enough to offer him that, bye bye Ron Ron.
"7 footer that ...hits open jumpers" we have scola and landry for open jumpers. we need a guy that is tall, physical and has a decent low post, good rebounder banger type game for When (not if) Yao is out for long periods of the season. is shaq a free agent? (just dreaming)
44.7% shooting? That's pretty impressive. If he knew how to pass and how to defend, he would be making >7mil a year.
I think he has a deal similar to Mike Harris had last year. He is definitely going into training camp and summer with us, but can be cut.
We won't be bring Wafer back for one reason: luxury tax. We'll definitely be over the threshold next year if we re-sign Artest. A salary of 2.5-3 million would actually cost Les 5-6 million, which is a tough to swallow considering how much money he's got committed to the wing positions already.
i don't believe that the luxury tax triggers until after the trading deadline. Les has shown that he is willing to start there as long as DM gets him back under by the deadline. Thing is, you have to keep it close because in this enviornment, it might be harder to get the other team to take back more than they are dishing
No more than a 3 year deal, starting at 2 mil per. He's no Landry, and Carl was signed for 3 per. We've had energy guys who attacked the rim (like Mike James) who flamed out pretty quick. I just don't trust Wafer for a long term or big money deal. It seems like even at his best he's instant offense for both teams.
I think we were very lucky that Memphis took SF3 off our hands for a 2nd rounder this year. We can't count on someone similarly taking Barry or Cook's contract off our hands next year. We can re-sign Ron and Von and hope some team gets us under the threshold next year. But that will leave us empty at backup center. I expect the money that was supposed to go to Von will go to getting us another big.
