Guys the Lux tax threshold is not tabulated until the END OF THE YEAR...so the Rockets can keep a few players, and make a trade....like the Snyder one last year to get under the cap. Pay attention to Luther or Francis at the Trade deadline...getting a 2nd round pick for either gets us under the cap.... No need to fret about it in October. DD
No. But neither will these 3 players help the Rockets a lot if the Rockets stay healthy. 13th-15th man. Who cares? I dont blame Les tries to take care of his wallet under the current economy too.
But do you really think the rockets are going to stay healthy. I think Morey has got to plan for the worst.
Well, Morey will put the Rockets in their best position to go under LT and let it play out. If Strawberry/Wafer go back to NBDL, Morey can easily get them back if they are available.
If T-Mac goes down, we are better protected because of Ron. If Yao goes down, it's not going to matter. None of these guys are going to fill that void, you make the cuts to have enough room for Deke. You want Deke, because he's big, cheap, and is in some ways better than Yao on the defensive end. You have to make adjustments if Yao goes down. In the end you can't have two starting units, for health reasons. You have to put your chips on the horses you have, good or bad. Yao is not going to get traded for a more reliable center, T-Mac is not going to get traded for a more reliable small forward. You couldn't get a fair trade for either one if they wanted to. You trade them to rebuild. These guys are young and have potential. I like them, but I would be suprised if they keep any of them unless RA says he has to have one of them which I doubt. Rick uses a 8-9 man rotation, maybe 10 from time to time, and I can assure you that Strawberry, Wafer, and Harris won't be one of them unless it's trash time. They are non-guaranteed contracts, Rockets want to get under tax line, they get cut. If someone gets hurt for any lenght of time, then you have a couple of guys you can offer ten day contracts too.
DD, I agree with you for the most part, but the events of October might actually impact the luxury tax calculations come the end of the year. For instance, if the Rockets do not waive D.J. Strawberry by October 31, his salary will become fully guaranteed. While his salary is pretty small, that guaranteed amount could be the difference between paying the luxury tax or not. I think San Antonio ended up getting stuck just a couple hundred thousand dollars over the luxury tax threshold and missed out on millions in shared revenues.
Let's review what Strawberry is better at: -Slashing -Finishing inside -Defense -Running the floor -Creating off the dribble And what Wafer is better at: -Scoring -Shooting It doesn't matter who we keep, really. Neither of these guys is all that talented. But I would prefer Strawberry. I think he might be able to develop into a Pargo-type combo guard. Wafer wouldn't be talked about if not for one hot shooting game with mostly wide open shots.
Not true, contacts that are not guaranteed do not become fully guaranteed until like January or February... There is time...patiency young padwans ! DD
Anybody know Harris's contract situation? Bullard said it was a non-guaranteed contract, but I thought he had a guaranteed one.
