I'd rather find another sg to fill his minutes. Unless he becomes a better team player and defender, get someone else.
The Rockets won't do anything with Von this summer until they resolve the free agent status of Ron Artest. If Ron doesn't re-sign for whatever reason, then the Rockets may need to keep their entire MLE to go after another third scorer/star. Wafer can only be re-signed using the MLE unless he's willing to take the league minimum. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wafer leave for a pretty good offer elsewhere if he gets it before late August rather than wait around for the Artest situation to be resolved and risk losing out on getting anything above the minimum from Houston. Morey's hands are tied on this one.
I would keep him, you have to remember that it's his first time every getting real minutes on a consistence basis. And don't forget.... his young 23 years old, with the experience in the playoff this year he will no doubt get better. It's almost like he was a rookie in some since, I don't think no coach in the NBA could get that out of him other than RA. This is the first time he knows what to work on during the summer, he actual has a season of playing under his belt.
I'd keep him at the right price. His worth, probably anywhere between 2.5 to 3.5 mill for 3 yrs at the lower income level or 2 yrs at the higher.
Von is the perfect player to play with our defensive juggernauts. He is the offensive spark, along with Lowry and Landry that makes that team deadly. I'll be sad if Von moves on. KEEP VON!
I love Von Wafer as a player, he is extremely athletic, is lighting fast and can go off on stretches where he is just automatic, I guess you would call that "streaky". What I love about the guy is his body control... Im not saying he is a "great" player BUT, if you look at all the great 2' and 3's that were/are dynamic (Jordan, Dr. J, Kobe, LeBron, etc...), they all have great body control to go with the athleticism and hang time allowing them to adjust in the air. Von is NOT one of those guys by no means, but he has some intangibles and, this is where the "issues" come up... ATTITUDE! If Von had a good attitude, he could be much further along in his career, no doubt. I think RA did a good job of putting him in his place this season, I bet Deke did a pretty good job himself. If we can get a hold on Von's attitude and if he just wakes up, he can be a really good contributor for this team. With that said, I'd love to have him back...
No question, we have to keep Wafer. He brings in a change of pace that refreshes the team and makes the other team's job difficult.
Not a great ball handler, but lightning quick at getting to the rim, yes. I think that's what was meant by dribble penetration.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him leave, but isnt that why we signed James White? Learn on the job and in TC as Wafer did.
I expect Von to make some serious improvements in the off season if he plans to stay with the Rox. His positives: - Highly emotional and energy player. Lays it all on the line - Efficient scoring. Brings instant offense to the team His Negatives: - Too emotional, thinks he's a one man wrecking crew that's out to avenge for his entire team - Does not pass to his teammates...AT ALL - Plays minimal defense - Highly streaky. Good regular season player, but not a playoff oriented type of player
Love Von, but his Bball IQ is reall low. It amazed me how easily Vujachick took him out of the game. Vujachick did nothing the rest of the season, I'm surprised he's getting a ring. That series showed me that Von isn't ready for the big time. I don't know if Morris Almond is ready. He was cut by Sloan, yes he can score, but plays less D than Von. I really hope flght white get's it going. That's why I believe that Shawn Respert is spending so much time developing his game. We need a smart/defender who can score to give Shane/Artest/Twhack a break. Bottom line can't count on Von to be consistent during the season and playoffs. Too iffy!!!
Last season the Rockets were lucky that an end-of-the-bench guy like Wafer was ready and able to step up when the backup SG spot became available. However, it would not be wise to go into the next season expecting lightning to strike twice.
Come on now. Its pretty easy for Wafer to get to the basket when Yao takes both his defender and Wafer's out of the picture. Vujacic really exposed Wafer's weaknesses in the Laker series.
Come on now. This guy struggled to play in the summer league one year ago and now he has proved himself to be able to be a rotation player with 10 PPG and he is only 23. If he had a breakout game in the Lakers series we won't even afford to keep him now. He can shoot 3s, attack the basket and it's the most athletic wing we have. Hope he can develop his game as a Rocket with the right attitude. He has the potential to be our future SG.
how can he be one of the worst ball handling wings you have ever seen when he is not the worst on this team which has had no guys that could handle the ball for years this is an easy yes. The rockets have been lacking an aggressive, emotional wing player for years. They never have players that can attack the rim and shoot the 3 ball. They would be crazy to let him go.
