How many times does it need to be explained to people that Brian Cook won't be dumped until the February trade deadline, when it will cost another team the least amount of money to pay the rest of Cook's salary, and the incentive (cash, picks) needed to get the other team to take Cook would be minimized? And, no, the Rockets were NEVER going to waive Brian Cook. That would have cost Les about $10-11M in salary, tax and lost tax revenues had he done that. This has been the plan all along. I'll be shocked if it doesn't play out this way.
Memphis didn't sign him because they knew he had injury problems at the moment. Thats why he failed the physical.
Is there a rule that a player is on the team permanently if the team signs a player to a 3rd 10 day contract in a row? Thanks ahead of time.
I liked Von's energy off the bench last season, but after his run in with Adelman during the playoffs I felt he didn't fit the mold. Mike Harris IMO is a much better fit as far as attitude goes. However, like a lot of other posters on here, I'm trying to figure out how the Harris signing makes sense. His outside game must have improved exponentially and Adelman thinks Harris can play the SF spot.
Pretty much. Although it does include x-rays and EKG. They could have found something like an irregular heartbeat, kidney or liver issues from the urine/blood work, or something else like some sort of injury.
Well, if he can not play right now this is a smart move, and Harris is a great alternative. Either way, one of my favorites gets signed. I would have rated them: 1. Wafer 2. Harris As well...but since Von is injured, and they need help, bring in Harris. I would not be surprised that once Von gets healthy the team signs him after whatever deal they have on the burner goes down. DD
I don't think this recent desire to sign someone has much to do with Budinger's injury. The Budinger hole can be covered easily between Ariza, Battier, McGrady, Landry, and Taylor. They supposedly waived Pops for "roster flexibility;" I don't see why they'd give that up for a temporary non-problem. In the offseason, they didn't know Budinger or McGrady would be getting minutes right now, and they didn't feel the need to sign Wafer or Harris then, even though both were available. We are actually stronger at small forward now (even with the injury) than we were when we told Harris and Wafer 'no, thanks.' This must be a preamble for a trade. Otherwise, I have to believe Morey and Adelman had no foresight in the offseason of who could play SF.
Not big enough for the 4 and not quick enough for the 3. I like him as a player, just not what the rockets need or could use right now. Dunnoo what going on with wafer, but i guess we will see.
I know, the jazz gave up their first rd pick with harpring to attempt to get down to the lux tax. Maybe the rockets have to do the same.
This REALLY makes me wonder, what is going on that they would immediately sign another forward. Is Budinger that badly injured? Is there a trade in works that requires another player with a minimum salary? Is Taylor not impressing the team at all in scoring or defense? Honestly, I am excited for Harris but this is confusing to follow as why we immediately need another body so badly.
I thank you for explaining this again, as it is still necessary and timely information. Why Brian Cook is a member of the Rocket's 15 man roster, should be known universally. A small price to pay (devouring his salary for one more season), for the pleasure of employing Kyle Lowry's services, hence no valid reason exists for fans to express anger at Brian Cook's presence.
You know, I'd rather have Mac as my point per minute guy than Von. Not that McGrady always defends, but at least he *can*. But I smell a trade.
