If he called a travel on the pump fake before the dribble then that was a horrendously late whistle...
Wade didn't establish a pivot foot either, he was still in mid dribble - that's what you are missing. The refs called him shuffling his feet before any of this that we are discussing even happened.
Actually, he travelled before the stepback so it wouldn't have mattered if he had shot it. Everything from the pump fake on was legal, he could have stepped back and not passed it if he wanted to. The dribble occurs at the same time jumps back off his right foot, so his right foot is not a pivot foot. Wade establishes his left pivot foot after the step back and that is fine. But before all of this occurred, (check the low quality video a few posts up) Wade travels by lifting up his pivot foot on the original pump fake before the step back.
And the whistle was blown after the step back. There is no chance in hell the refs blew the whistle for that. The whistle came after the pass off. Its like the refs were cool with wade taking a shot in that area playing his hero ball, but passing it to an open battier is a whistle. If the refs dont call that no one even notices, but because the pacers have to win to tonight it is a legit call.
No, if you've stopped and established a pivot foot, you can't lift your pivot foot without shooting or passing, i.e. you only get one step. On this play he clearly stopped, grabbed the ball, and then took two steps to step back.
As Wade steps forward, he dribbles. During the motion of his step back, Wade picks up the dribble with both hands before stepping off of the front foot. Had he picked up his dribble on the way back behind the three point line, it wouldn't have been travelling
This thread is proof no one - seriously - understand the travel rule.. not a knock on anybody, but proof there needs to be more clarity on traveling
I definitely wouldn't have called that a travel, but whatever, I don't care... I'm glad the Heat lost lol
He didn't stop. It was all in one motion. Just because he went backwards instead of forward makes it hard to see. Harden does this very thing in the video I posted he just does it quicker. Wade was in slow motion tonight which is another reason it looked weird.
if you watch any nba game you will notice they dont call travels. Especially when a player knows when he can get away with it.
Yep, that pump fake travel has been called on Kevin Martin about once a game. BTW, the difference between a normal step back and a travel is whether the step back happens before or after the player picks up the dribble.
Yeah used it now. That was split second. Refs probably couldn't tell with the naked eye. Probably why they didn't call it. Plus, Hardens looked fluid and normal. Tonight, wade's movement seemed awkward.
Yes he did. He hesitated and then stepped back. Watch the clip again. Just because your rose colored homer glasses prevent you from seeing it doesn't mean it's not there.
Eh, I mean we're talking fractions of a second here. In real time it appeared that he stepped back and picked up his dribble simultaneously. I'm positive that the travel call was made due to his shift in pivot foot before the stepback. Wade's stepback is made all the time in the NBA. He doesn't put both hands on the ball until he is in mid step back. If the NBA considers that a travel, then James Harden would be in BIG trouble, lol.
Sorry, not a Heat fan, just annoyed at the know-it-all Pacertom. Wade didn't stop. He was just moving slow and awkwardly tonight. He had a horrible game. It was all in one motion, just slow motion.
I agree. Normally Wade picks up the dribble while both feet are in the air. It just looked very awkward in tonight's game. He seemed to have changed his mind mid move.
That made no sense. You get two steps after you pick up your dribble. A stepback counts as two and the frist foot to land is the pivot foot.
