If Wade joined Rose on the Bulls, they would vault right up to #1 past the Blazers as my favorite team after the Rockets. I would follow them game-to-game. Hopefully the Bulls will find a way to dump coach Vinny this season and hire someone worthy of the job. It would be such a waste to have him coach a team with Wade and Rose on it.
I think our disagreement here stems from our perception of the two players. Setting aside the two players' 'real' abilities which is irrelevant here, you seem to feel that Lebron is a significantly brighter star than Wade as evidenced by 'hog all the spotlight.' From my perspective, that's not the case. Lebron is clearly the better player, but I see Lebron as only having slightly greater star power and slightly greater comparative advantage. This would be nothing even close to Jordan-Pippen. This would be Shaq-Kobe "Shaq is clearly better but those damn contrarians keep building the case for Kobe and it is so close I am starting to believe it at times myself", sans the feuding. Of course this is all opinion, so no point discussing that any further. I don't know of any contenders that were bidding for his services. I only heard of New York, LA, Miami, and the Grizzlies showing interest. Even then, let's hypothetically assume a contender offered him the role of 6th man as you posed. There is a significantly greater difference between coming off the bench for a contender and signing with the Grizzlies than there is between being option 1B to Lebron's 1A and being option A somewhere else, especially when you are a guy who everyone thinks is washed up and has something to prove. On a contender, Iverson essentially becomes last year's Stephon Marbury as no team with title hopes is actually going to run plays for him, whereas with the Grizzlies, while he will likely come off the bench behind Mayo and Conley, you can bet he will be given a chance to freelance mainly because the Grizzlies are a complete joke with no semblance of an actual offense. In the case of Wade, he is still going to get his 20 shots. So I don't think that was a valid comparison. I completely, completely, completely disagree in so many ways. The main factor is the uncertainty regarding his status. There's absolutely no guarantee that he will stay injury free and despite Z's success, the odds are against him having any sustainable period of good health. Now if you were in Wade's shoes, would you seriously lock yourself into a long term deal onto a team with that cloud hanging in the midst? I sure wouldn't, especially when I had other attractive options. Even setting Yao's injury aside, I would still prefer Rose. We can all agree that the game now revolves around quick guards and Rose/Wade would be an absolutely devastating combination. While Rose isn't Chris Paul just yet, he has a greater chance at attaining greatness than does Yao, IMHO. Yao has already reached his ceiling and he's just not a guy who even at his best, can carry a team. He's too easily completely neutralized, increasing the hypothetical burden on Wade in a playoff series. Ask Tracy McGrady about this. You also have to consider the 'fun factor.' Think about how every player wants to play with Jason Kidd. That will be, or already is, the same perception with Rose. Guys just love playing with great point guards, especially if you are a perimeter player yourself and like to play run 'n gun. Compare this to playing with Yao - you'll have a legit shotblocker behind you so you can gamble for a lot more steals, a legit post threat to anchor the half court offense, and a tireless worker. On the flip side, you have to pin point your passes perfectly or he won't be able to catch the ball. You have to carry the team through stretches. Yao makes Wade's life easier by allowing him to rest but Rose amplifies his strengths in playing the same game. I personally go with Rose on this. If Yao = Rose, I don't think there is any way Dwayne Wade, as an outside observer, would conclusively deem Brooks/Ariza/Landry as superior to Deng/Salmons/Noah/Thomas. While I would personally take our guys, it's not a big enough of a disparity that Dwayne freaking Wade would take note and jump ship to Houston nor is it nearly enough of a difference to offset or even mitigate the disparity between Rose and Yao. Now throw Scola and Battier in there, with a healthy Yao, and we have a different story. But that's can't and won't be the case. As far as the 2nd rounders, every team has 2nd rounders - nothing more than a crapshoot there. I also don't think there's any chance in hell we get a top 5 pick with this coaching staff. Has any player actually signed in Texas for this reason? Though it is cited a lot, I can't think of any actual case. I know players avoid Canada, but there is a distinction between avoiding a situation that increases something you deem bad and actually going to a situation to lessen the amount of something bad of which you are already imposed. Most people would probably avoid the supermarket with the higher prices but who all actually clips coupons to even further lessen the cost they are already paying?
Do you think Wade would hint that a coaching change would be one of his conditions? Who would be the best available candidate for the position?
This board has a humorously high opinion of its own players. The thought that a completely badass and most likely self-absorbed ego-maniacal NBA superstar would move his family for the purpose of playing with two relatively irrelevant role players is pretty silly.
Never say never. Lebron James did actually call up Ariza to join him at Cavs. So why not the other way round? Call it optimistic, but thats what all fans do. Take out TMac from Rox squad, and take out Lebron from Cavs squad. Who would you pick?
Remember Dwyane Wade in the Olympics was 2nd fiddle to Lebron and crew, and was just an ANIMAL on the court. The physical style he plays, Wade playing next to Lebron might could extend his career a year or more. Thatd be like the class jock and cheerleader telling the math club geek he can attend their party. Then the math club guy inviting the jock and cheerleader to his party with his other math club friends. They'd probably stop by for a quick token visit to be nice, but coincidentally have other engagements to attend.
First question: I sure hope so. I can't watch every game of every team, but Vinny was one of the most clueless rookie coaches I've seen in a long time. So much so that I don't think he's salvageable. The guy just isn't cut out to be a good head coach in the NBA. I'll change my opinion if he somehow make gigantic strides this coming season. Second question: Remains to be seen.
Agreed. Personally I think you're overrating Rose a lot, and Chicago role players to a lesser extent. I guess that's where our difference of opinion comes from. So with that in mind, I think there's no need to carry on this discussion. Also, no one is mentioning this but I can definitely see it as a possibility, Yao could opt out of his contract and settle for a long term contract at a low base salary. Say a 5 yr/50 mil contract with opt out clause, allowing us to pay someone the max without giving up both Scola and Battier(likely the former due to the Ariza signing). Morey has shown a lot of skill when it comes to maneuvering. So I wouldn't be surprised if he has something up his sleeve to make the most of the money we have next year. I think a lot of players do. But since they're mainly MLE or lower contracts(when was the last time Dallas/SA/Houston had cap space?), you don't really hear about them. Also, players usually don't come out and say outright that the income tax matters, since it's not good for PR. But you have to admit Texas teams are pretty good at getting FA in general. Although in Dallas' case it's usually through SnT.
