all defense teams are pretty much just star showcases, always has been, still makes me laugh at that year where deke won dpoy but robinson was first team all defensive
Yes it is. If anybody is an overrated defender, it is Wade. Over the past several years, he hasn't had the responsibility to guard the best opposing perimeter player (as Artest/Ariza have been carrying that load). But prior to that, he was consistently making All-Defensive 1st teams and was a feared defender around the league. When Kobe wants to step it up on D, he can.
How is Wade an overrated defender? On the 2006 Championship team he lead the 9th best defensive team in the NBA in defensive win shares in the regular season and during the playoffs. He's one of the top best pick pockets in the game at his position. 2008-09: 2nd most steals per game 2009-10: 4th most steals per game and one of the greatest shot blocking guards of all time. <object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ez-MgxqDjfA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ez-MgxqDjfA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object>
Wade played out of his mind in those playoffs/finals, but shaq was the best player in that regular season (probably why he made 1st team and came, what was it? 4th in mvp votes?)
http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/awards_2006.html#mvp Wade was NBA 2nd team that year behind Kobe because Kobe was BALLIN that year (Wade was still 5th in PPG) but Wade lead that team in Win shares & PER during the regular season.
You're thinking of the previous season. Shaq's first year in Miami, he finished really high (2nd) in the MVP voting. By year two together, Wade was the better player. He finished 6th in MVP voting, Shaq did not receive a vote. Shaq was first team all-NBA while Wade was second, but you can't use that to determine who was better because they played different positions. Shaq was competing against Ben Wallace for the honor and Wade was going against Kobe and Nash.
You've lost your mind. Not even close who their best player was that year, regular season or playoffs. OK, as someone pointed out, you may have been thinking of the prior season.
Kobe is a SOLID defender, yes. I won't say that he's not. On just THAT video, the maker of it had no issue including a bunch of GOALTENDS and HACKS in it. Great hustle, anticipation plays and blocks from a 2 guard no doubt, but gotta discredit 1/3 of those plays
