Dreamin'? I can see what your saying about RHCP's Other Side, but don't hear the STP, plus it's the same as saying they ripped off Mary Jane's Last Dance for Dani California.
I don't buy the Scott Weiland rips off Eddie Vedder's voice nonsense, that would mean the guy changed his style of singing while recording their first album, but even if that were true, who are the ripping off for their sound?
You gotta give Maladroit another spin too. It and the Green Album are a lot closer in quality to Blue and Pinkerton than they are to Make Believe IMHO.
I was totally wrong. Its track 5 that I meant and hate. It rips one of the Peppers singles, I cant think of which. It rips one of STPs singles and also reminds me of Naked Sunday. Now I am not saying they blatantly did this, I just think it comes off that way. And the song is pure cheese. Just like most of the tracks. The last song is good.
So, what do you guys think of this song that Rivers co wrote with various youtube members? It starts around the 3 minute mark. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r2wZGUBCmSI&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r2wZGUBCmSI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I don't know who wrote what chord or lyrics, but from what I gather, this guy took whatever demo they had and went into his own awesome home studio and recorded the song himself and his version is still used for what they have now, including his backing vocals. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_XP5ZWPTlM0&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_XP5ZWPTlM0&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> You can see his studio and another version of the song if you care to: http://www.youtube.com/user/taylor2d2 I think it's pretty catchy, regardless of how good it is, the whole idea of a "rock star" like Rivers working with people on the internet is pretty damn cool.
So who picked it up yesterday? Looking at Karl's Corner at the official site, there was a link to a crap load of videos of them visiting their old haunts in LA, videos for the songs Automatic, Thought I Knew, and them singing along to Greatest Man while it plays on a Ghetto Blaster. Automatic (the song Patrick Wilson sings) <div style="margin:0; background-color:#212121; width:423px;"><embed src="http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/" width="423" height="318" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="CONFIG_URL=http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/configuration.jhtml%3Fid%3D1588489%26vid%3D237701&allowFullScreen=true" allowFullScreen="true" base="." allowScriptAccess="always" ></embed><div style="background-color:#212121; margin:0 0 0 0; padding:0 0 2px 0; width:423px; text-align:center; overflow:auto; min-width:423px;"><ul style="margin:0; padding:0; list-style:none line-height: 1.2em;"><li style="margin-right:4px; display:inline;"><a style="padding:0px 4px 0px 10px; font-family:Verdana,sans-serif; color:#439CD8; font-size:10px; text-decoration:none; background:url(
I have to admit, Greatest Man was totally bizarre when I first heard it....but now I think it's utterly brilliant. I'll be amazed if they can pull that song off live. Evan
FYI, Rock Band downloads of "Greatest Man That Ever Live", "Dreamin", and "Automatic" avail for d/l this week along with the Pixies album. track pack I'm definitely buying
Rivers has put out a 2nd album of Demos this year, Alone II: This video was filmed mostly here in Houston at Reliant Arena: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mtxnRT0IaXg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mtxnRT0IaXg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Song is okay. I could use a little less piano and a little more distorted guitar though. You know, that Weezer sound. And some Matt Sharp falsetto vocals would be nice, but that ain't gonna happen... Is one of those guys rolling the case Karl?
