it's also funny how the very thing some of you question.. leadership and poise... places like scout.com list as a STRENGTH for Jay.. and don't list it for either of the other two http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=107&p=9&c=12&nid=83&lnid=124&yr=2006&refid=5210
actually that makes me question those sites because while I think it should be a strength for jay it should also be for vince... as should arm strength for both
Uh, lots of the questions anti-Vince folks have been saying are about his arm strength and accuracy. Most of the evidence suggests these are non-issues, arm strength can certainly be evaluated in such workouts. (Though accuracy shouldn't have been an issue to a studious person in the first place, VY was about 70% versus winning comp last year and 75% if the most pressure filled game on 40 attempts--reflecting both good accuracy and decision making). Further, most NFL games are played in pretty decent conditions, and having the good zip like the vast majority of reports of VY's throwing showed helps limit the effects if he does play the occasional game in bad weather. McShay (Scout guy) has never been very positive about VY. For the record I didn't say Cutler isn't a leader, just not as proven as ML or VY. Jay Cutler may show a lot of leadership abilities, but has simply never faced a situation like VY and ML faced and thrived. Both in terms of media and game pressure. You can't simulate the Rose Bowl pressure, or at Ohio State, or at ND. Having all the tools doesn't mean you can stay focused with it all on the line. You know ML and VY can keep it together, you can only think that Cutler can keep it together on a similar stage. That is why IMO Cutler had prove he had far and away better tools to be chosen before either ML or VY--and from the pre-senior bowl to the senior bowl game through the pro days (unless ML bombs)-- I just don't see it happening.
desert.. true, I still don't think the senior bowl was that bad and a lot of it was the fault of dropped passes.. the interception I think was the result of a good defensive play more than his fault.. if you go back and watch the tape again .. his performance doesn't look that bad I understand your leadership point, but if you go by that standard.. you'd end up passing on big ben , steve mcnair, and other great players who never had a chance to be in a big game in college.... it's hard for me to count it against someone just because they never played in a game as big as the rose bowl... everyone seems to look like a good leader when they are on the most talented teams..
i think he showed some leadership in that comeback against florida that we almost pulled off (bs excessive celebration cost us chance to go for two and win)..... it wasn't going for an undefeated season or anything.. but he has faced big teams and played well
not really, and hardly anyone looks like Vince did. he was the unquestioned, recognized leader of the UT team and pretty much responsible for changing the entire character of the UT football program (which is almost unheard of for a player to do, as opposed to a coach) from a team that crumbled in big games to a team that relished them. and he just owned the ends of games. leadership and poise should just be renamed the Vince Young category. as for the senior bowl, i can't keep the post-season games in order, was cutler's interception the one where griffin from UT jumped in front of the guy and intercepted it?
I think, in this case, Mortenson may have some credibility issues. He lives in Atlanta and his son attended an SEC school. Southerners are a loyal lot. Not to go too far off subject, but there's a reason why the sugar bowl was awarded to Atlanta instead of Houston, despite how helpful Houston was towards Katrina victims. To me, I think it's very telling how much Salsbury liked Vince's workout. He has no dog in this fight, actually, he has two dogs in this fight.
francis 4 prez.. yes that was where the UT guy jumped in front of the guy.. I think in an offense where the players were familiar that receiver would have came towards the ball or not let griffin get right in front of him.. I think it was a solid play by griffin more than a bad one by Jay gr8-1.. was Salsbury at the actual workout? It seems a lot of pepole who talk a lot about the workout.. weren't even there... The funny thing is I'm pretty anti-sec.. sec has too many academic scandals (such as uga basketball) and way too many arrests
ok was just wondering... since media that are there aren't really supposed to talk about it... I'm not sure if he was at Cutler or not. haven't heard anyone say he was
Thanks For the record the titans GM etc also praised Cutler at his workout... that's why I don't pay much attention to the quotes usually.. when do you ever see a gm not saying positive things about a player after his workout?
The Titans are not going to want to tip off their choice and risk being hopped by someone trading with the Saints--actually if they publically favored VY, ML or JC I would more rule the guy out. My personal opinion if they will favor VY or ML, but who knows for sure. Salsbury (sp?) was at the VY workout and raved about his throwing. He did say ML is a great chalkboard guy (tremendous xos knowledge of football) and that teams would assess that privately with Young and that would be very important. And he has no agenda I can think of.
That's fine. Honestly I don't remember that. It would be poor form for a gm or coach to criticize a guy in public.
On Cutler's pro day: "“I can’t imagine too many quarterbacks who are going to perform much better than he did today,” Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said. “You saw a variety of things,” Reese said. “You saw him throw on the run in a little bit less than an ideal situation. It was cold out there. He was able to come out and do everything he had to do
desert.. i hope they favor ml or vy. the worst thing for cutler's career would be to be in a city full of anti vandy people.. and that is exactly what nashville is.. every mistake he made would be torn apart by utenn fans
