More comedic than what is going on now? Leinart would most likely have sucked too, but remember VY barely played 2008-09. So it's not like Leinart could have been worse. Maybe VY would be more successful with a coach that actually wants him. Fisher seems to like conservative pocket passers. Philly seems to be doing fine with Vick.
We know exactly which QB he went after, Kerry freaking Collins. You're still treating one bad half against one of the better defenses in football as if it erases everything he ever did. The guy was actually pretty decent last year (and even the previous week), hence the 9 wins or whatever. But his margin for error is much lower than any other QB. Nobody was calling for Matt Ryan's head after an unimpressive outing against pittsburgh last week. I'm betting nobody will deem Josh Freeman an unabashed failure after a likely beating at the hands of the steeler's D next week either.
The question is what other freaking QB he would have gone after if he didn't have to have Vince on his roster. It's not like he wouldn't have tried to get another quality QB to compete with Kerry freaking Collins. The point here isn't whether VY is good enough or not. The point is Fisher doesn't like him, and by forcing him to take VY, Bud has created a clusterfreak of a situation.
VY has risen from the dead more times than a Vampire. I'm sure he'll come back, and play well enough to lure the Titans into thinking he's turned the corner, but he's always going to have these kind of horrible performances in him.
Next week's game should be VERY interesting, IF VY comes out horrible again then you know something is up but if comes out decent then maybe he has gotten over his mental weakness.
Fisher is JVG of football. A good coach but doesn't take any chances and would rather lose playing his way than win playing some other way. They guy is not open minded enough to win it all. He took the air out Air McNair.
i know we don't like vince over here and we had our laughs but he still shouldn't have been benched tho.
Do they go to the playoffs in 2007 with Leinart? Yeah...it could have been worse. It could have sunk them in a hole too deep to dig out of. Look at the history of teams that missed on 1st round QB draft picks. It isn't good. Drafting Leaf put the Chargers in a tailspin that only LaDanian Tomlinson got them out of. Our own David Carr, for one. The only reason the Cardinals didn't go down was because they got the resurgence from Kurt Warner. No Warner? They would have been all-time bad.
I think the Titans win streak had a lot more to do with the fact that the first 6 teams they played were good (or at least tough matchups, i.e. road games, Pittsburgh before they fell apart), and out of the final 10 games they played, they only played 3 decent teams, and only beat one of them (Houston). Vince did a few pretty amazing things in that streak (I think Arizona sticks out most in my mind), but the evidence points more towards the schedule going from rock hard to pillow soft.
Largerly agree but McNair was a two time MVP, how did he take out the air out of Air McNair? Give him a good QB and watchout.
Yeah, I don't know how that happened either. Jeff Fisher was the coach when McNair was drafted and his coach through his entire career at Houston\Tennessee. It isn't like Fisher came in later and changed everything and McNair went down hill.
Once again, we know the quarterback he wanted. Kerry Collins, which is why he signed him to a 3 year extension.
Geez people, he had one bad game, I don't think he should have been yanked, got to let your players find their way sometimes. I do think Vince needs to run a lot more often though, I never understood why the team tries to make him a pocket passer, let him loose if the passes are not there. He has to get back to being a threat to scramble to be effective, IMO. DD
As usual, the most polarizing figure in Texas sports history sparks a new debate every time he has a good or a bad game. The Steelers with a healthy Troy Polamalu are arguably the league's most menacing defense. Chris Johnson had nowhere to go yesterday, and as Chris Johnson goes... so do the Titans. Lets just call Vince Young what he is... a subpar starting quarterback in the NFL. Good enough to hand off to the league's most explosive player, just don't ask him to stand in the pocket and deliver against an elite defense.
