I lol'd when I saw Fisher say this on NFL network. Fisher said that he "wasn't thinking about" Young's feelings when he benched his starter, but instead was just trying to win the game.
I've seen better QB's taken out when facing similar problems. They go back in the following week like nothing happened and it all goes back to normal. Fisher had to do what he had to do.
I like VY and I completely agree with pulling him, he looked HORRIBLE out there, and without CJ being able to run the ball they needed a QB who could throw the deep ball better than VY was doing, so in the situation it was the right thing to do IMO.
Primetime was killing Jeff Fisher on NFL Network last night and he might actually have a point. I understand he was playing horrible and basically got exposed having to play against a top "D" but he is your QB and pulling him in week 2 shows him and the team he has ZERO confidence in him. Did anyone really believe Collins was going to rally them vs that defense? I would have probably stuck with him and let him try to figure stuff out, now week 7 or 8 and the Titans are a playoff chase then YES make the move and get someone in there with more experience but not now.
I get the feeling that Fisher really doesn't like Vince that much. Bud Adams made that pick, not Jeff. It's very similar to the situation with Leinart in AZ. Ken Whizzyhunt didn't draft Leinart, so he was on a short leash from the get-go. Once the opportunity presented itself, they cut ties. I get the feeling Vince may find himself in a similar situation if he doesn't become more consistent. That, or Fisher may bolt.
Game should have been OVER by then and he turned the ball over himself. NOW the onside kick changed things a bit at the end but before that he was just as bad as VY. Even at that point, I still didn't believe he would tie the game and now VY is going to all screwed up mentally. Don't get me wrong, NOT a VY fan at all but long term VY is their QB not Collins and as mentally weak as VY is...this could be trouble for them.
It may have something to do with the fact that he's the starting* QB on a division rival? Why is it so hard for people to understand why Texan fans would hate the starting QB on a division rival? FYI, not everyone here gives a crap about UT. *maybe, maybe no And it will probably end the same way eventually.
I'd agree, after last season's late surge it made it impossible to move on but I am sure by years end one of the two won't be back in 2011.
I'm a UT fan...but the second he was drafted by the t***, he became the enemy. My first allegiance is to the Texans.
This is why owners shouldn't meddle. Titans would be very scary if they could get consistent QB play.
Why not? His decision to meddle saved Fisher's job last season. The issue is this, Vince is obviously the starter and Collins hasn't done anything for about 3 years - he showed last season he's effectively done, and wasn't much better than Vince yesterday, late TD against the prevent notwithstanding. Vince had a rocky half, hell so did Joe Flacco and Brett Favre and a bunch of other QB's - but sometimes with a rocky half you just have to stick to it and see what happens, when you have pretty much nothing in reserve.
Who knows what QB Fisher would have gone after if he wasn't forced to take Vince. It isn't necessarily Vince vs Collins. If the Titans had a guy who could actually read defenses properly, they would be tough to handle.
That would have been comedy at it's finest. Fisher would be long gone and the t*** would still be pulling themselves out of that hole...and, assuming he didn't end up with the Colts, Jags, or cowboys, I wouldn't have to hope for or take joy in VY's demise.
