    Wow...how the mighty have fallen....

Vince Young was arrested by a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on a charge of DWI early Monday morning (4:31 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4) in the Missouri City area.
He was released on the same date on a $500 bond. NOI #

Not that I know what's going on in Young's life, but it always amazes me how some players who leave sports early (due to various reasons) always seem to make headlines for the wrong reasons.

Manziel, Young, to name a few. Like, do you just have too much money and don't have a healthy outlet in which to spend it? Seems like there are obvious pitfalls that can be avoided.

Since when is 6 years in the NFL “leaving the sport early”? The average career is less than 3 years.

When you're the 3rd overall pick in the draft, quickly emerge as a franchise QB then just as quickly falter, in that situation, yes, 6 years is a very short career, and his career definitely ended early. We're not talking about practice squad guys here.

There are lots of external factors at play, and every case is obviously different. In Manziel's case, he's an incredibly intense and impulsive person with a humongous sense of entitlement. It's fairly easy to see why he got caught up in a bunch of vices, and crashed and burned so quickly. In VY's case, I think some of it has to do with the fact that his career and life (for the most part) didn't exactly pan out the way he had planned. Between washing out of the NFL fairly quickly for such a high draft pick, having his money basically stolen out from under him by bad influences, and still having a little bit of the God Complex from his UT days, I just think he's kind of rudderless. I feel bad for some of these athletes who have never really had positive influences in their lives. Sometimes having too much money without any guidance is a burden.

    Really?

VY is dumb as a box of rocks, this has nothing to do with not having any guidance. I'm sure many Longhorn benefactors would've been more than willing to guide VY if he wanted guidance.

The excuses people make for VY are part of the issues he's had. Life since he showed up on campus in Austin has been easy for him. He's got a 6 figure salary and all he has to do is be VY and yet he's doing his best to screw that up.

    Texas fires Vince Young

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas has fired former star quarterback Vince Young from his part-time role as a development officer for poor performance and often being absent from work or not in touch with his supervisors.

The move also comes after Young had a second drunken-driving arrest within three years on Feb. 4.

Young’s March 1 firing letter says he was dismissed “for not demonstrating significant and sustained improvement in the performance of (his) job responsibilities and failing to maintain standards of conduct suitable and acceptable to the university.” He has been given job warnings dating back to 2017.

He helped (or was supposed to) with fundraising, recruiting and football camps. So yes, Development officer.

That was part of the reason they gave him the job in the first place, several years ago, Rocky. Obviously he has to get his **** together.

Nobody to blame but himself. He could have lived like a king in Austin for the rest of his life: gigs with the Longhorn Network, the University, appearance fees, etc.... Hope he can turn it around someday.
