at least they were memories. how about when we stormed into washington only to lose cause we had IAN HOWFIELD kicking the ball sideways like Paul Wall.

how about all those times John Elway made us look stupid?

    buddy ryan vs kevin gilbride.

Once you pick sides, there is no going back. So you better consider yourself a Titans fan for life.

yes. you must hate every one who ever wears a titans jersey...or love them all. if you choose to root for even one, you instantly must hate all houston texans ever. forever. and you must make account of such decision by noon on friday. and remember that God is watching.

Considering the low bar you guys have set for the Texans to earn undying love, respect and admiration, which they meet simply by existing, I think the Oilers 30-40 years of existing in Houston satisfies it.

The significance of the day was not lost on Moon, the first in a line of black quarterbacks for the Oilers-Titans franchise that also included Steve McNair for 11 seasons and now Young, the No. 3 pick overall in the draft.

"It's very special that way," Moon said. "I think Mr. Adams was more open to black quarterbacks than any other owner in this league. Vince Young is just going to be another in that line of successful African American quarterbacks in this organization."

Moon also noted the connection between his tenure as the Oilers' quarterback and Young's debut.

"Vince Young is a young kid that was rooting for me when he was in Houston as a young player while I was playing," Moon said. "He wore my number, and it's nice to know that guys respected you, respected the way you played the game and respected the way you carried yourself."

And all of that respect and goodwill was lost when the team moved away because of an ******* owner.

Seriously, you Titans fans are incredible. Every single team that has skipped town under bad circumstances (Browns->Ravens, Whalers->Hurricanes, etc) has been hated by its original fans, but apparently the Titans are exempt because some guy from your college team plays for them. If you guys have been Titans fans all along, where have all of the "Go Titans" threads been for the past 9 years?

Just drop the pretenses and admit you guys are cheering for the Titans because of Vince, not because "THEY WERE THE ORIGINAL HOUSTON TEAM."

A friend pointed that out to me yesterday, and my instant response was "no wonder Eli Manning sucks so bad!" :D

By the way, this Sunday, I will be rooting for Vince Young to have a great game and for the Texans to win the game. Best of both worlds.

I moved out of town too, and will probably never move back.

I'm rooting for them because of Vince, and because they were the original Houston team that I grew up with. And because I think the Texans are boring - which actually helped me like the Titans more. Even though I don't hate the Texans and want them to do well too. Nor will I care that much if the Titans do badly.

What's funny is that you guys don't realize that there is room for other opinions other than "I LOVE X HATE Y". Christ almighty, I'm 30 years old, I can root for whatever team or player I want for whatever reason I want. I root for the Rockets because I always have and always will. I don't root for the Texans except for when I do, which is whenever I feel like it.

I don't care about the particulars... this is sports. Bum Phillips ring a bell? Keeping the Oilers name? Bud Adams is the sports anti-christ.

I know it's stupid, but if the Texans were just able to reclaim the name Oilers and wore blue uniforms, I would start following them. As it is, I'm paying attention to the Baltimore Ravens for the first time since I've lived here, just because they have a former Oiler at quarterback.

    I miss Earl.

    I miss Bum.

    I miss White Shoes Johnson.

I miss playing the Steelers to see who makes it to the Super Bowl.

I believe a lot of folks have admitted to only rooting for the Titans since VY came on board. After the draft I recall folks saying drafting VY was a way for the team to establish a connection with them...to make them want to get on board (I was one of them). Again, simply being "Houston's team" isn't enough to make a bunch of adults cheer for you or give you their money. A good percentage of our city isn't even from Houston.

Also, isn't it kind of silly to tell someone who they can root for? If you don't like the threads supporting that other team or player, then simply don't enter them. I understand it's different when everyone is getting their comments in a Mario Williams or Texans thread, but this one clearly is about VY and it's in the Hangout section.

HILARIOUS. Neither of those teams will be playing, and neither team playing will be sporting those colors or logos. :D

I wasn't saying you guys couldn't cheer for the Titans, I was saying that you guys need to drop the "LIFELONG OILERS FAN" pretenses and just admit you're Titans fans because of Vince. "LIFELONG OILERS FAN" alone is a pretty crappy reason to cheer for the Titans, because the team and its owner abandoned the city.

Also, even though this is the Hangout, you're posting on a forum run by and mostly visited by Houstonians about a team that most of us hate. Don't you think that's the slightest bit antagonizing? This is no different than posting a pro-Jazz/Malone thread in the NBA Dish (which is technically for all NBA teams).

Asshat Bob Lanier was at least 50% reponsible for the Oilers moving. So, although he totally deserves his share of the blame, don't put this all on Adams.

I tend to blindly root for Houston teams, yet I have no problem rooting for individuals on other teams, too. I've done this since childhood. I was a HUGE Astros and Rockets fan growing up, yet I was also a fan of Mark McGwire, Don Mattingy, and Mark Price (don't ask). When those individuals played against a Houston team, I rooted for my team to win but for the opposing individual to have a good game as well.

Because I still employ this philosophy today, to me, this whole thing is a very simple matter. I like the Texans; I also like Vince Young. This weekend, I will root for Young to have a good game and for the Texans to win. There. Problem solved. Some of you are making this more complicated than it needs to be.

BTW, Mr. Meowgi, do you, by chance, have a fantasy football team?

The thing is, I completely agree with you. I'm a Houston sports homer, yet there's a laundry list of athletes on other teams that I cheer for unless they're playing one of my teams. VY is on that list, but there's no way in hell I'd root for the Titans unless they were playing Al Qaeda Football Club.

VY fan does not necessarily equal titan fan(in my case it does, but I have never gotten into the texans that seriously). You underestimate how much of a local connection/following Vince has here. The decision not to draft VY is analogical to if the Rockets had picked bowie over hakeem. The only way this situation changes is if the texans win soon or williams becomes jordan to vince's hakeem. And right now, considering they will be cutting their starting QB and play in the AFC winning will be incredibly tough for them.
