Can you riff some more on the ol' "Didn't get along with his coach excuse" and why it's an important point to be considered? Cause let me tell you.....Me likey! Then you and Bud can tell us why Fisher is a great coach....I have a feeling Bob and Gary would agree wholeheartedly! I'd say you're almost batting 1.000 here, if .500 wasn't better.
Maybe you should ask the person who brought it up? I'm sorry, but comparing those situations, VY to Cutler, Fisher to McDaniels, is kind of dumb. The Titans may or may not have been better off taking "the Vandy Kid", I don't really care to wonder, to be honest.
You still don't get it. When the Titans won, it's because of VY. When they didn't, it's because Fisher held him back and/or his supporting cast wasn't good enough. On the other hand, Cutler has little to do with anything positive that's happened to the Bears but he's definitely responsible when they lose. Please screw your head on straight. People like you make it very hard to understand VY's greatness. P.S: The Titans 13-3 season led by Kerry Collins doesn't count because only VY is responsible when they win. They would have been 15-1 and won the Super Bowl had Vince been the starting QB the entire season. Advice for you: Please buy a VY prism from someone here, keep it well-polished and use it regularly. When it comes to VY, plain reality doesn't tell the whole story. If you don't understand that, stop posting about him.
While it is amusing to watch you crap all over Fisher to protect your boy, it will be interesting to see what the expectations for Fisher will be in 2011, provided there is a season. Collins' contract ends this year, will they bring him back? Will they draft another QB high? That decision may have a lot to do with whether Fisher stays I think.
He does have this prism, he just looks through it from behind, that's he's saying Cutler's ostracism from Denver is excusable "Because [the coach] and he couldn't work together." It's why he's arguing that Kubiak must be fired but Fisher must be retained. etc etc etc.
He also has a shot at passing up Weeb Ewbank for 9th in the alltime losses list. Another decade and he'll threaten Dan Reeves (who also happens to be the patron saint of the Houston Texans, great move Bob). He's a young man so he can only hope.
Excusable? When did I say it was excusable? He asked why Cutler wasn't there, and I told him. What am I excusing? If you want an excuse, here's one... The difference is McDaniels was a new coach and Cutler had, to that point, played pretty well. Not exactly similar to the VY/Fisher situation. That gives Cutler at least some leverage in his defense. And the fact that McDaniels fell flat on his face afterwards just validates Cutler even more. I'm arguing that Fisher must be retained over VY. If Fisher goes on to suck balls without any kind of reason (will Rusty Smith be starting next year?) then yeah, it's probably time to go. But for the sake of this argument, I'm looking at it as one or the other must go. And apparently the people close to the situation feel the same way and want Fisher to stay. At least now we can get a kick out of you blasting Bud Adams as well as Fisher.
The year they went 13-3 they had albert playing in god mode. Anyways I am not going to argue VY is a great QB. Here are some stats. VY's record as a starter is 30-17 or at least that is what I have heard. VY has been there since 2006 his record is 30-17 therefore the record without him during that period is 24-25 or under 500. This includes a 13-3 season in it. So fisher is a slightly under 500 coach. With a small sample size you need to use like a t distribution, but I am going a use a a normal one. The average wins over that 5 year period is 9 and std deviation is 2.4. So there is about 4.6% chance of 13-3 season happening. The true probability is much smaller since I am including the vince games in my calculation which pushes the mean much higher. But the reason that VY is winning is cause of jeff fisher's great defense. Here are the defensive rankings for fish's teams since 06: 32 5 7 28 26 So he basically had one team (2007) which was a good defensive team. You could argue fish is a bad defensive coach without Fat Albert trying to get a contract. If the the statistics favor Young they can not be used, only against him. Will vince get another job I have no idea, its on him. The same Titans team with and without Vince was drastically different and the statistics bear that out.
In case people are wondering why bud chose Fish: Adams admits his decision to keep coach Jeff Fisher was largely about the money. “With what I am paying him, I am not going to let him go and pay him a lot of money,” Adams told Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean. “I was thinking we could get him and Vince [Young] together, but it wasn’t going to work so I had to stick with Jeff and let Vince go.” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...t-consider-firing-fisher-because-of-contract/ probably same reason why bob kept kubes. Money Talks.
Man . . . Titan fans cannot be happy to hear it is about the money and not what is best for the team. Rocket River
All I know is that VY was the best player in the best college football championship game I have ever seen. After that, he seems to be pretty much of a flake. However, if he could get his head together, he still could be very good.
I hope no one wants him and the Texans sign him as a back up. Next year Schaub goes down with an injury VY steps in and leads the Texans to a Super Bowl win, despite Kubiaks mediocre coaching. VY manages to take the Texans to the Super Bowl 4 out of the next five years winning 3 (4 total) and solidifying his place as the pride of Houston Texas.
